Reviews on Mexican food in Cuenca, Azuay Province, Ecuador. Writers and poets have long flourished in arts-oriented Cuenca, the country's third-largest city and the capital of the Azuay province. Cafes and galleries are tucked among the narrow cobblestone streets. The main plaza hosts both the old cathedral, started in 1557, the year the city was founded, and the blue-domed Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, dating to 1885. Locally made Panama hats get top billing at the markets, with centrally located Casa de la Mujer a shopping standout.

El Pedregal Azteca has preserved traditional Mexican cuisine since 1989. We offer a wide variety of Mexican food, such as burritos, tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, mole, poblano, etc. You can also enjoy a variety of Mexican and international drinks. Ask about
After two weeks in Ecuador, we came to expect that âdiningâ was more a matter of âfuelâ, not culinary adventure. El Pedregal Azteca serves Mexican style cuisine â not to be confused with Ecuadorian. But they do a wonderful job of preparing and presenting terrific food. While we are Southern Californians and eat our weight in Mexican food (so have high standards) â El Pedregal does a great job. Certainly a Cuenca visitor would do well to eat here and add âpleasureâ to the act of âfueling.â

Small, cozy spot, unpretentious. Lots of El Santo paraphernalia and Spiderman was playing on the movie channel. Ice cold beer. Burrito was very flavourful. I had three small tapas, the veg quesadilla was very good, the chicken taco was nicely spiced and I can't remember name of third item. Fast, friendly service, but didn't feel rushed. Good prices. Will be back.

A fun place to enjoy fresh food and drinks
Restaurant located inside of the Santa Lucia Boutique Hotel. French type decoration with a hens theme and pale colors. Here I have tried the best pork ribs in my life. A perfect cooked meat with a spectacular flavor. The âpotato locroâ is a thick soup which you add aji, avocado, cheese and herbs, it was delicious! The hotel´s breakfast is served at this restaurant. First a fruit plate, and then you can choose between several choices of eggs dishes. I recommend the âMorlacoâ that has motepillo, grilled pork and creole aji, an original dish from Cuenca. There is a variety of breads, mermelades and butter types, as well as good coffee and different natural fruit juices. Prices about $15 per main dish. Recommended!
