The nine islands that make up the Azores are in fact the peaks of some of the world's tallest mountains, reaching from deep beneath the Atlantic. The once-uninhabited, volcanic archipelago now hosts thousands of tourists every year who flock to the islands for sun, sand and verdant mountain scenery. From the beaches of Praia da Vitoria to the bustling marina of Horta, to the bubbling volcanic ground "ovens" of Furnas, these islands offer unparalleled--and unusual--adventures to discover.

It was our first trip to The Azores (Sao Miguel specifically). We came upon this location on a travel site (Travel Zoo, sorry Trip Advisor, hehe). The destination appeared to us as relatively inexpensive trip, a direct flight to the island from near our home (United Airlines from Newark, N.J.), currently Covid and politically "safe", and simply somewhere we've never been. We traveled May 27-June 5. First thing to know is the weather is ever changing there, even in the course of a day. We went from rain, to sun, to cool , to 75 degrees regularly. Our advice is to pack smartly for how you deal with these changing conditions. A good weather app on your phone to monitor the conditions will be helpful before you travel. The entire staff was helpful, pleasant, and knowledgeable. From the front desk staff, to the manager/concierge(s), to the restaurant servers, to housekeeping, each person we encountered was friendly and helpful. At times there is some language issues, but not enough to matter. Remember "Obligado" or "Obligad"..this is thank you in Portuguese and the Azorian dialect respectively. It will get you far..hehe We saw soooo many beautiful parts of this island. Amazing shorelines, mountains, volcanoes, hot springs, botanical gardens, hiking areas etc. I would say this is not a "beach" destination as many might think. We had tours with (2) separate companies and they were both perfect to enjoy the the must see points on the island. Being first timers, we need this. Our tour day 1 was with Sammy of Green Corner Tours (greencornertours.com). His knowledge of the island history and must see points made for a great day. Lunch and drinks were included for approximately $70 pp. Our tour day 2 was a full day Jeep tour with Riccardo of Greenzone Azores Tours. A true local (born and raised), Riccardo was the best!! The others in our group were also U.S. rookies like us so it was a great day. Look Greenzone up here on TripAdvisor. Lunch and drinks were included for approximately $70 pp. We also did a walking food/history tour of Ponta Delgado with Hungry Whales Cultural and Food Tours. This was also great to see this historical city at approximately $75 pp. Be aware of the current exchange rate of dollars to Euros. Most told us the people are not expecting to being tipped, but certainly appreciate it. The language spoken there is Portuguese, but most people we encountered spoke English, no worries. DEFINITELY WILL RETURN!!

Thank you for the accommodations and service Furnas Boutique! Most of my sentiments will echo the excellent reviews already written, so I'll just add one tip: the 65 Euro airport shuttle service that the hotel offers is much pricier than what you'll get from the cab drivers at the airport. Avoid it and use one of the cabbies lined up at the airport instead. Sharing a picture of the cab driver we used as he was very friendly, responsive and available within minutes to pick us up. He can be reached via whatsapp. His pricing was much more reasonable. Also, the spa was fun and relaxing, but I have definitely had better facials elsewhere. Very friendly, polite and helpful staff. Thanks to Octant for packing us breakfast for the early airport departure.

Stayed for a week with my sister in November 2021. First, may I say that all the waiting staff in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner as well as in the bar during our stay were very pleasant and amicable. We ate frequently in the restaurant during our stay and we were happy with the choice of food, how it was cooked and the members of staff that served our table. We also ate in the bar and had similar pleasant experience and enjoyed the cocktail happy hour :) We also had the opportunity to use the wellness center. We were very pleased with our Swedish massage and the hot stone massage and the therapists were very nice and pleasant as well as professional. I used the wellness center (pool, jacuzzi and Turkish baths) and again can report that these were very clean. The gardens were well maintained and all in all it was a very pleasant experience and up to our expectations. The hotel is clean, modern and very centrally located.

+ Outdoor and indoor swimming pools + View from the outdoor pool + Breakfast choice is large: ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, eggs, beans, buns, bread, soft bread, jam, honey, almond, cereals, fruits, ..... + Very helpful staff. You remark it especially when you face a problem.... + Possibility to rent a car from the hotel + Free WiFi of course - Humidity in the room after taken a shower. Would be wise to improve the HVAC, to get ride of it. - Tiles of the terrace would need a refurbishment.

We couldn’t have been happier that we chose the Atlantida. Planning for our first visit to the Azores, we were initially unsure whether we wanted to be out of the main city of Angra. But in hindsight, we were happy we did. It’s an easy 20 minute drive from Praia da Vitoria on the occasions that you do want to go to Angra. (And I mean no offense to Angra. It’s a fantastic town and we visited it repeatedly.) And the benefits for us or multiple. The beautiful ocean view and sunrises from our room at the Atlantida. The far quieter and more serene setting vs. in Angra proper. The ability to walk out of the hotel directly to the Esplanade for a walk on the coast in the evenings. Easy parking. And, at least during our stay, the weather always seem to be better around Praia da Vitoria Then on most of the other parts of the island. And all of the things that others have already said. Lovely staff, spacious rooms, impeccably clean, excellent breakfast buffet.

After working in health care for past 2.5 years and being vaccinated and boostered x2 we decided to travel. We stayed at Verde Mar and Spa in Ribera Grande The hotel was lovely ,the room overlooked the ocean with a small balcony. The pools inside and out were clean and all areas were well maintained . Unfortunately we both became positive for Covid the day before we were leaving to go home. The hotel manager along with all the staff could not have been nicer to us . We had to quarantine for five days and Caterina ,the hotel manager sent breakfast daily to our room along with fruits and even a picnic basket so we could sit outside and eat. Every staff member was thoughtful and kind. Caterina even helped explain what we had to do and where to go for official testing. I hope no one has to go through this but ..... the people at this hotel could not have been nicer or more accommodating

We stayed here for a week as part of the Azores Getaway Package in May 2022. Location: Hotel is on the waterfront which is beautiful but a bit of a hike to the City of Angra. If you have any mobility issues you need to take a cab for about $5 euros or find a hotel closer. I didn't mind the walk, but in May it rained every night and was hard to plan the walk around the weather. Gym: Gym was closed due to renovations and the option was a gym in Angra. No prior warning of this. Bar: Bar upstairs has a patio over looking the water and the staff are very attentive and accommodating. Staff went out of there way to serve us. Maids: Rooms were clean but ran out of toilet paper and Kleenex and had to ask maids for refill. Left most days for tours and when we returned at 4PM the room still wasn't done. Requested an upgrade on booking to oceanfront, but was advised there were non available. With only about 20 people at breakfast I found this hard to believe. Staff assisted with electrical adaptors and assisted with restaurants in the area. Front staff assisted when asked. Most people reported the rooms outdated which I didn't find. The beds were firm but comfortable but we had two singles pushed together. We had room 220 which was second floor overlooking not much. The exterior paint needs a bit of work and the exterior looks a little tired. Construction was ongoing on the ocean decks below so jack hammers were going during the day. I guess the work needs to be done and the spring is the off season so no fault here. Breakfast: Breakfast was the same everyday which I was expected having read previous reviews. Breakfast was not bad, but always found something to eat. Coffee from the machine was watered down. We usually got a coffee across the street in the morning. I would not discourage anyone from going here just adjust expectations.

Facility needs some repairs, but the staff is helpful and polite. Fairly close location to the airport. About a 10 minute walk to Old Town section. Has a pool, bar, and restaurant. Stayed for two nights with a reasonable value. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. WiFi signal was also good. There are a few paid private parking spots in a secure area. Also, a decent amount of on-street parking.
