Giuseppe is a great waiter and knows how to turn on the Italian charm. The pizza, salad and coffee were all fine and the limoncello extra was a nice theatrical touch. It was only on the way out that we saw the Certificate of Excellence sticker. Pity about all those people who complain of interminable delays; we had none of that problem.

In the old part of St. Etienne, which by itself is amazing to see. The restaurant is ultra modern which clashes with the surrounds but has a flair all its own. The waiter did not speak English but we were able to navigate the menu which lead to a great dinning experience. The menu is typically limited as with most small restaurants, but has a wide choice of options and is somewhat pricey. The food was prepared exceptionally well and the service was outstanding. The wine choice was limited, but the wine available was very good. The desert menu is very good and worth the try. Not easy to find but a great place to visit if your are in the St. Etienne area.

This restaurant is one of the few places where you can eat out in the southern end of Saint Etienne. Right opposite the Bellevue hospital and T1 tramway line, it is a themed establishment with an "exuberant" decor. When we arrived a band was playing "Honky Tonk Woman" during their sound-check for their evening gig in the bar. They didn't play while we were eating which was nice. The restaurant is in another room and is quite narrow, space was at a premium. The owner was extremely affable and friendly and made us feel welcome. The menu was actually quite a baffling mix of dishes, menus and choices and prices. The food was adequate but did not get me writing home or firing up Instagram. Some of it was served on pieces of slate, if you like that sort of thing. The house Côtes du Rhône was reasonable. My dessert selection was home-made and my wife had cheese. Luckily I had been to the cashpoint earlier because the credit card machine was on the blink and wouldn't complete the transaction with my (perfectly valid) plastic. These things happen though. They gave us a complimentary shot of liqueur which was a nice gesture.

If you like cod, then this is it. This is the third time I've been and loved it each time! And of course I'll be going back again for my dose of tasty cod.

Went here based on TripAdvisor reviews and was pleased we did. Great pizzas cooked in a wood burning oven. Reasonable prices of the food and pichets of wine. Walking up the street from the town centre, we wondered if we had our directions wrong as there are no other eateries along here. But keep going - worth the short walk. The pizzas come in two sizes - only choose the bigger ones if you are VERY hungry!

It's a cave a vins specializing in moderately priced, regional, organic French wines that serves a marvellous one plate lunch. You can get expert advice on which of many, many wines under 10 euros, or some more pricey French and Italian wines, to take home with you, or you can stay for lunch, and enjoy the casual, friendly service and excellent food in the clean, bright converted workshop. Our plate was a centre of green salad with a tasty poppy seed vinaigrette, surrounded by a range of delicious treats -- top quality charcuterie, a goat cheese/confiture bruschetta, house made humus, a savoury sautéed mushroom, a hearty leek/carrot rapee, and two regional aged cheeses. The real surprise was engaging wine pairing suggested by server/proprietor Jean-Jacques Maleysson -- a Dard et Ribo Crozes-Hermitage -- at an extremely reasonable price. So, if you like food and are curious about regional French wines sourced from small organic producers, stray an hour out of Lyon to St Etienne's lively centre ville, and enjoy a lunch at Le Verre Galant. Both your purse and your palate will thank you. And you're sure to buy a bottle or two of a wine you'd never have found anywhere else.

Arrived in St. Etienne with nine hours to kill before England played Wales in the Euros so decided to search out a fine dining experience for the afternoon.Headed a short distance from the city centre and stumbled across l'Escargot and its excellent menu. I wasn't disappointed. Foie gras, steak frites and an amazing cheeseboard washed down with a fine local red.Subsequently joined by several friends, I stayed for seven hours and loved every minute! Excellent food and superb service. Right now I wish I lived in St. Etienne.

Very pleased that they rearranged tables to get our group of five seated. From the tapenade to the petit fours, the food was excellent. The asparagus soup (cold) was stunning although I couldn't detect the pistachio, others could. The poire de boeuf was perfectly cooked and the anchovy tapenade and fried aubergine were perfect accompaniments. The desert of red fruits with rhubarb ice cream rounded of a great lunch.Had local bottled beer and pichets of local wine. Offered great value.Overall wonderful experience.

Very hard to find fault with my dinner here. A smart, stylish, not over-modern dining room with comfortable chairs. Staff smart and just the right amount of attentiveness. Wine list covers a wide range in price, including a good selection of half bottles for us solo business travellers. Dinner was fois gras en gele, preceded by a salt cod appetizer, rather larger than a typical amuse bouche, an excellent filet de boeuf in a St Joseph reduction with a zucchini gratin avec brebis all excellently done. Cheese selection was large and well kept and after another intervening surprise, desert arrived, a special instead of the menu Assortement de Desserts - a soupe au fraise, with an Creme Caramel made with Earl Grey in the center and a herb flavoured ice cream on top, finished with champagne after it was served. Wonderful and, although not cheap, worth the extra $25 or so over
