Find out what Central European restaurants to try in Ellmau. Ever seen a movie or TV show that takes place in Austria? Then you’ve probably seen Ellmau. Charming villages, idyllic scenery and an 18th-century parish church make Ellmau a popular filming location for directors who want a setting that’s quintessentially Austrian. For regular folks, Ellmau’s draw is its proximity to the Wilder Kaiser mountains, where the hiking trails and ski slopes are equally spectacular.
Things to do in Ellmau
This is the top of the Hartkaiserbahn funicular from Ellmau. Three chairlifts arrive at the same spot so it can get busy, but itâs big enough to cope. In fact it seemed almost empty when we arrived mid morning. Tremendous view of St Johann across the valley, and the Wilder Kaiser from the panorama bar. Thereâs an escalator to the loo - very civilised when most places ask you to clump up and down stairs in big rigid plastic boots. Generally I prefer waiter service - trying to balance a tray of stuff in the aforesaid skiboots is no fun. They do have a waiter service area, hidden behind a curtain and closed on the day we were there. My brother in law claims never to stop at a self service place, but I suspect he only stops at places where he isn't banned. The self service area here is a puzzlement of separate counters serving different things. So you queue up at the food counter for food, the drinks counter for beer, the coffee counter for coffee. Then you queue to pay. Itâs a bit too complicated for me. Cappucino 2.90Tea 2.10

This is a great mountain ski restaurant above Scheffau with a very wide choice of dishes, good pricing, excellent service and a choice of well appointed seating areas. We have tried a few different cafe and restaurants across the Ski Welt Region and we think this is one of the best. This is our second year in succession skiing this part of the SkiWelt mountain arena. The restaurant sits just below the main Gondala up from Scheffau (Brandstadl II) on a gentle blue category piste (64). Pull over to the left of the piste, you can't miss it about half way down. You can sit inside in a well appointed, pretty area with large, bright windows overlooking the mountains, at the bar, outside or in a sheltered area with a glass perimeter and huge parasol. This is not a self-service restaurant. But the service is fast and, for 2017, their customer service is much better than last year. They must have been on a training course as they have a good system, working as a team, and they are very friendly. They all speak English if you struggle a little with your German language. The menu ranges from a breakfast, light snacks, cakes, desserts and full meals. It isn't expensive and, considering the overall quality, is value for money.Toilets are, as you would expect, clean and modern although they are downstairs so it's a trek with your ski boots but it's the same everywhere. I have noticed that the soap in the toilets seems to run out a lot when I visit so message to the team: do the loo inspection a bit more frequently and top up the soap!We have visited a number of cafe and mountain restaurants across the SkiWelt and also the Ski Jewel areas. We think that this ranks as one of the best. You can easily incorporate it into a terrific day of skiing on the mountain for the family. It is one of our favourite places to eat and relax while skiing. As an aside, the skiing around this restaurant is also great for beginners (not complete beginners but those who have made some progress beyond basic snowplough) and intermediates. There is a huge choice of pistes, a good lift system and they can create a proper ski experience with their extensive artificial snow cannon even when it hasn't snowed for as long as anyone can remember! Just as long as the temperature is not too high. The piste right outside the restaurant is one of the most forgiving for skiers wanting to build their confidence. And for those who are more adventurous there is the opportunity to leave the restaurant, pop your skis back on and then ski all the way down to the car park and bottom station - a wonderful experience across a varied and really long piste.Highly recommended.Arianne

Ate here twice and both times good food, however! First night I asked for tap water and was given a bottle of water with top already unscrewed, queried this when the bill was presented as charged â¬4.40 but waitress put it down to a mistake / misunderstanding. Second time eating there a few days later I asked for tap water again, same scenario, I queried again when bill presented and was more forceful with my query, there was some consultation between the waitress and head of house but no offer of removing the water from the bill, but offered schnapps instead (guilty offering I suspect). To the restaurant - why do it? All you are going to get is annoyed customers which is a shame when the food and service is actually good - when your customers ask for tap water they want tap water (particularly in the mountainous region of Austria) not to be charged for tap water in a fancy bottle, all you will get is a poor reputation and declining sales!!!We have sparking waterWe have still waterWe have water from the tapeYou ordert still water, we serve still water and you drink still water! But please come back I give you back the 4,40 Euros!

The owners and staff were friendly, the service was exceptional, the food was excellent. Our waitress was extremely helpful about my food intolerance (to garlic) and ensured that my meal was free of that ingredient. In fact she couldn't have been more friendly and helpful and we shared many laughs with her. She spoke good English but was encouraging to my brother and sister in law who were using their recently learnt German language. The restaurant was clearly also well used by locals, always a good sign in my book! The cost was reasonable and the whole experience memorable. The downside was that in Austria, smoking still seems to be allowed inside restaurants, and this is a problem for me generally, but luckily we found a table away from the smokers and it actually didn't bother any of us in my party of four. Within the skiing season or when the summer season gets fully underway, this might not have been so easy if there were more customers, however, in spite of this we would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

As a local traditional Austrian restaurant it quite good. The sirloin steak was fine, not spectacular, but good enough and the veal veiner snitzel too. The desert wasn't so bright, Apple strudel seemed from yesterday and the vanilla souse from a supermarket, but the very nice service compensated for it.

A new adapted restaurant in old-wood style with a small wine bar and 50 seats in two guest areas. A modern Lounge with leather furniture, a big 3D screen and smooth music invites you to relax. Parking area at the restaurant. There is an outdoor dining are
Been there a few times as it is a rather small restaurant with friendly service and great meals. Try the poachers dish, it contains local wild meats and sides. Just a few km outside Kitzbuehl and away from all the fancy stuff.

Up a long winding road that seems in the middle of nowhere we emerged into a picture postcard perfect location. Jagerwirt served excellent authentic Austrian fare. We decided to celebrate in this restaurant a birthday and we're happy of our choice. Their menu is absolutely delicious and harmonic. Service were really friendly a we enjoyed our dinner. They cooked for us also some sweet surprise for a birthday occasion. It's very expensive restaurant you should calculate with at least â¬100 p/P with some wine but you'll be satisfied with everything. I can recommand this restaurant for some festive occasion!

We stopped off for lunch before heading for Kitzbuehel. We had a lovely table by the window with the sun streaming in. The Schnitzel, Tyrollean platter, sausages etc. were all very good and we did not have room for dessert. The waiting staff were friendly and relaxed.
