Lovely spot in the square (in the shade which was welcome). There werenât many people there but only one person serving. The food took well over 30mins from ordering (soup, schnitzel and chips). Soup good, other food not crisp enough. Nice photos of old St Gilgen around the deck.

A simple restaurant but with a great view. On our first visit there was an Austrian duo singing which was fun to listen to. Probably partly due to going in November we were eating with locals not tourists which we enjoyed. The staff spoke good English and were friendly. We particularly enjoyed the chicken schnitzel.

This is one of these places where if you did not know it exists you would never look for it and even if you know where it is you still have to try to find it. And trust me - it is worth the search. The view is spectacular. The service is friendly and efficient. The food is delicious. Come with friends, kids, dogs, spouse(s)...in any order. Take all your time. Enjoy a few drinks. Time actually stands still and you just want to stay in that moment forever. BTW you can actually drive up there so even for non hikers it is an option (3⬠toll for the road - bring coins). They organize events also so why not celebrate bday or even wedding in style?

Wonderful setting overlooking Lake Mondsee. Owners were so very gracious. We stopped here for coffee and dessert during our morning tour and it was one of the highlights of our day. All kinds of beautiful homemade pastries. We enjoyed our strudel (best we had in Austria) on the balcony with such an incredible view on a beautiful day. Made for a wonderful memory of our trip through Austria!

Only in operation for about 4 years but improving all the time.excellent food and service. location might not be the best, being an old coaching house at the side of the main road to mondsee, 2 miles out of st gilgen.

We chose to spend Christmas at Hotel Gasthof zur Post and were pleased we did. St Gilgen is a delightful small town and the Gasthof sits at the centre of the village, with the Xmas market literally on its doorstep, nearby free parking and 5 minutes from the cable car. The interior has a pleasantly traditional timbered vibe, though the rooms on the 4th floor where we were located are clearly a modern addition and have a predictably corporate design. That said, the room was large and comfortable (if a little overheated). Our only moan was that the strange bathroom layout may not be to everyone's taste and the tepidity of the water may be due to technical problems with getting hot water to the highest point in the building. The restaurant served fairly standard Salzkammergut fare but was perfectly agreeable, though we we understand the menu doesn't vary week to week. Breakfast was a wide-ranging buffet-style affair which included a wide range of local meats, cheeses, pastries, breads and optional dishes that could be made on demand. Our Christmas Eve meal was a lavish buffet in 3 acts offering more meat options than was humanly possible to consume and a respectable set of non-meat options, including fish, for vegetarians. The hosts made quite an effort to make an occasion of the meal, including a toast, gifts and a personal visit to each table. We enjoyed the event thoroughly.

Though at first sight, the menu at Wirt am Gries presents Salzkammergut standards, all our choices demonstrated the extra effort and quality one looks for in an upper quartile restaurant. The ambience and decor is that of a country inn but the service is very friendly and competent and there are new choices on the menu everyday (though not always on the english menu). The fish is great and vegetarians are well looked-after. The corn-fed chicken had an extraordinary amount of flavour. Local suppliers are listed on the wall to reinforce the commitment to high quality ingredients.Would definitely return!Thank you so much for these kind word. We are glad you enjoyed your time at Wirt am Gries. We hope to welcome you back soon, Family Tritscher

The Austrian â Hungarian taste empire is back in town! Let me tell you our story⦠Our family comes from Hungary. A Hungarian family living in Austria. What would everybody say? They would say, that we are simply typical foreigners. But here comes our spin
I have pleasure in commending this enthusiastic team of Hungarians who show an example in this area of how to welcome guests, service with a smile and deliver a very appetising meal. Although we only ordered two different salads, nonetheless quality was very good. As someone who relishes enjoying good Austrian wine, their Blau Frankish Holzner, by the glass was excellent. If you are travelling between Salzburg and Bad Ischl, I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant , certainly we shall revisit again.Thank you william! We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your meal and Gimsenwirt and the Gimsenwirt experience :DThe Gimsenwirt Team is looking forward to serving you again.
