We had lunch once here returning from a hiking and it was a very nice experience. The man who served us was so quick and friendly that we couldn´t believe it. Mymeal - spagetti with nettle pesto!! decorated with flowers -was delicious and my husband liked his Kase-spetzle very much. And the nut -raspberry cake with the local cream was heavenly. This place with a stunning view is unforgettable. It is also possible to buy some local food products there.

If you are love hiking - this is a wonderful place to start atour along the "Love Trail". Phnatastic view, good "alpine" food, friendly service. If you want, you can purcase fresh cheeses and butter there. If you come before 8 a.m. you can even watch how the cheese is made from the fresh milk.

Paradise Hideaway For People Who Look For No Tourism Nature Place Fresh Food Cooked By Owner And Funny Thai Woman (rose) Right On The Breathtaking Crystalclear Lake Millstatt
We had two delightful lunches at Villa Verdin. The dining room has a wonderful view across the lake in Millstatt and is warm and inviting. The service is a perfect match - friendly and helpful. And the food was delightful. The menu is clearly influenced by Italian cuisine and this provided a refreshing alternative to the often heavier Austrian fare. The wines that were recommended were excellent as is often the case in Austria. We had hoped to stay at Villa Verdin but were unable to do so. If the rooms are as good as the food it would be a wonderful base to enjoy the area.

The man who wrote our guidebook to the Alpe Adria Trail said that this was one of the best huts he had stayed in. My wife and I agree. Everything about it was superb - from the warm welcome, to the cosy room in a beautifully built block, just away from the main hut, and the meals. Dinner was delicious (we particularly recommend the spetzl) and very good value and breakfast was excellent, with proper muesli and a selection of local cheeses and cold meats. The lady who runs the hut is charming - and speaks good English!

We ate here largely by accident, but am so glad we did. It turned out to be one of the best meals of our whole Austrian holiday. The simple "ofenloch" potato dish comprised two enormous, crispy jacket potatoes, with a delicious sour cream, yogurt, herb and bacon topping which, for the price, was simply incredible value. The "Steirische" potato was a single jacket potato, served as above, but with a huge portion of steaming hot vegetables AND two very generous pork medallions which were seasoned and cooked to perfection. This restaurant simply serves delicious food at a very very fair price. The dining area had a great ambience and the owner came out from behind the grill to talk to us about our travels, our plans and to ensure we had everything we needed. It made the whole experience very enjoyable and upheld the traditions of Austrian hospitality. Highly recommended, and if we were staying longer, we would definitely make a return visit. No question! Go. You won't regret it.

We came here by recommendation of our apartment owner and we were truly impressed with both the roads leading to it and the panoramic view it offers. If you come from Obermillstatt, there is an entrance to the mountain where you pay 5 Euro per car for entry. The little hut was full of flowers and delicious smell of the food. All outdoors seatings offer a great view surrounded by happily grazing cows. We had their plates of Austrian typical cold-cuts and cheeses with a big brown slice of bread. The plates were garnished with pickled cucumbers and paprika, with red onions and some white roots (an equivalent of Wasabi in flavor). The dried meats tasted so good - salami, smoked ham, smoked bacon, cooked ham and one mountain cheese. These were simple but perfect for an outdoor meal up on the mountain - not too heavy for a nice warm day like today. We had one big platter (about 9 euro) and one small (about 6 euro), one 0-5 litre water and one beer. All was 21.90 euro. Value for money. Service was good. Not too fast but we didn't need to wait for too long either. You can also buy Bergkäse at their little shop in the next door mountain. Plenty of parking on a beautiful mountain slope. We fully recommend a stop here either for drinks or for a meal.We are not hikers or bikers but this is obviously a starting point for hikers to go to the Granattor one hour away.
