Himmel Blau is a newish restaurant located directly next to the Irish pub in Lienzâs town centre. It is highly recommended, especially to those looking for something different from the normal Austrian cuisine â schnitzel etc.The restaurant itself is pretty small and feels more like a bar when you walk inside. It is actually connected to the Irish pub (called the Celts) and the toilets are shared by both establishments. The atmosphere is relaxed, casual with guests even eating on bar stools whilst sitting at the bar.The food offering is where Himmel Blau shines. The concept is an unusual mix of small dishes which they call tapas. It has however very little to do with Spanish food and instead is a mix of Asian, European and American food, all of which are extremely delicious. Dishes include fillet steak, king prawns, pasta with salmon and chicken curry. All the dishes we had were very good and very satisfying. Depending how hungry you are, two or three dishes should be plenty and you can always order more. The great thing about the small dish concept, as with Spanish tapas, is you can try lots of different things at once with your family or friends. Other tasty things on the menu included some delicious soups, healthy salads and mouth-watering desserts. Service and staff were friendly and the food arrived quickly. This restaurant and the Irish pub next door do get very busy so it might feel a bit crowded and loud on the usual Friday and Saturday nights. Either book a table or go slightly earlier or later than the normal eating times. It is a non-smoking establishment but guests are free to smoke in the pub next door or outside on one of the outdoor tables they have.Price wise expect to pay about â¬3.50 for a soup, about â¬6.50 for one main course and about â¬5.50 for a dessert.Himmel Blau is only open during the evenings with hot food being served until 10.30pm. They are closed Sundays and Mondays. There is no parking directly at the restaurant but there is a pay and display carpark just a one minute walk away.In summary the Himmel Blau restaurant offers an interesting concept with delicious specialties from around the world in a relaxing, but well-frequented bar-type atmosphere. The food really is delicious and itâs easy to get carried away and order far too many dishes. Highly recommended for something a bit different and for those who have had enough of the usual schnitzel and goulash. There is no other food like this in Lienz. Oh and you can have a pint of Guinness next door too! Now what more do you want?

Good food, good beer, and a decent attached hotel. The only suggestion would be to partition off the smoking and non-smoking sections a bit better. The bar looked like a nice place to have a beer, but it's been two decades since I've wandered into a bar that smokey!

A la carte Restaurant at the Grandhotel Sophisticated gastronomy in exclusive surroundings: At the Grand Hotel Lienz be indulged with different types of culinary delicacies. â¢Pure enjoyment and delicious tastes go without saying â¢5 Individual and personal
We had two gourmet dinners here as part of our stay in the hotel. Both were excellent, cooked with great skill and served in a wonderful location. For example one night there was a choice of carrot sesame salad with orange and chicken or a mixed salad to start. This was followed by delicious carrot and orange soup. Then this was followed by rolled lamb with aubegene puree and coriander yoghurt. Main course offered choices between Paillard of beef with rocket salad or halibut with parsip or green pea risotto and this was all followed by banana, milk caramel and peanut or the cheeseboard. After all that silting by the river enjoying a cup of 'verlangeter' coffee - paradise. It just doesn't get better than this.

Enjoyed lunch here on a sunny and mild day, sitting outside. The building is beautifully kept and interiors look nicely appointed. My (pork) wiener Schnitzel was nicely prepared and the boiled potatoes were typically Austrian, with a light parsley and oil dressing. With a white beer this was just the right level of comfort food with attentive service.

This is a garage, itâs new in the city. Modern and fresh. Went there with clients. No English menu but the waitress spoke perfect English and translated everything well. Food was good and tasty.

This place while rated the best restaurant by Lonely Planet, pretty much disappointed us on our recent visit. The food taste is at best average with choices of local Austrians food and European food while prices are quite high and the decoration is not so charming

The Fasslwirt is a new Gasthof - Restaurant, run by a very capable young couple, husband chef, wife runs the service etc. Foodselection very good, not the usual fare but quite creative, presentation of food very attractive. Foodquality very good. At lunchtime serves mostly the people working in the factories around, in the evening a la carte service. Good wine selection.

We ate lunch there on a Sunday afternoon. Our hotel called ahead for seating in the courtyard in the back. It was a nice setting. They welcomed us quickly and gave us English menus. The service was good but local people seemed to receive more attention. However, the food was very good and the prices were reasonable. We enjoyed the space between tables to avoid those who were smoking. I would return.Thank you, Janet G
