At first glance, it’s hard to believe that vibrant Norfolk Island could have a dark past. Yet during the 19th century, the now-peaceful Australian retreat was a convict colony, home to criminals who’d been banished into exile. Today, the archaeological remains of the penal colony have UNESCO World Heritage status and are revered for their historical significance. You can visit the settlement’s remains, an eerie yet beautiful collection that includes a jail, a cemetery, lumbar yard and salt house.

What a great little treat this was! We happened upon this travelling mini restaurant while cruising around Kingston and were pleasantly surprised at how nice the food was. They offered a large range of foods, more than you would expect from just a small outlet. Primarily seafood. The also provide tea and coffeee, slushi's,Hot food, Chowder etc and I understand they are looking to expand their outlets.

Café Latitude 29 is situated inside the Norfolk Mall at the Entrance to “Foodland” and is open for: takeaway, or dine-in for breakfast, brunch, or lunch.Huge Pies, Sausage Rolls, etc. with a self-service selection of sandwiches and large servings of various cakes … plus they have a separate ice cream section.Their coffee was the best I tasted on the island, although they did have a problem getting it hot enough for me (they explained it was a new machine that day and they were just sorting it out).PS. My curry pie @ $5 was great tasting, chock a block full of filling (not runny), and probably 3 times the overall size of a pie at home (much larger than others I tried/saw on the island).

The range of sweet & savory baked goods is very good. The food is fresh and very tasty. The service is very friendly and always helpful. The bread comes in half and whole loaves, but you are not charged more for the half loaf like most places on the mainland. This bakery is apart of a grocery store, which has a good range of products and the post office is located within the same space, making it easy to do all your transactions in the one store.

This cafe is on the main road running through Burnt Pine, so you can't miss it.We called in for a coffee one morning but sadly found it lacking in flavour. A nice Asian gentleman runs the cafe but I think that they need a good Barista. There are much better places to enjoy a coffee near by.Thank you for taking the time to write the review. And I am sorry for your disappointment with the coffee - most of the time we get great feedback about our barista coffee. We have taken your comment on board and will do better next time :)

I wasn't quite sure what to expect here. We went in intending to just have coffee and a bite, but ended up eating lunch because we couldn't resist the tasty treats on offer! Thankfully we beat the crowds, as it seems popular with tourists and locals alike.

While visiting Norfolk Island with family, we stumbled on this wonderful restaurant and cafe. There was 10 of us in the group and the staff easily catered for us by putting tables together outside in the garden area and we ordered tea/ coffee and scones for morning tea. The tea and coffee was excellent and honestly we’ve never tasted better scones! They were huge serves with lovely whipped cream and a beautiful home made jam. The scones were so light and fluffy and the flavour was perfect. We had heard such great reviews about their meals but unfortunately it was our last day and we didn’t get time to go back. Highly recommend and if we visit Norfolk again, this restaurant will be on the top of the list!
