Not far from Siracusa and Catania, Brucoli Resort is situated amongst lush flora and tall palm trees that give it a sub tropical feeling. The modern Mediterranean style building is made up of a central body with different wings, of one or two stories. This allows the building to be pleasantly emerged in the surrounding green park which slopes gently down towards the sea.
I wanted to treat my wife and I by booking a delux room with a sea view. The room has a tiny window and a garden balcony which if you exit and walk a bit you can see the sea in the distance. The room was stuffed with 4 beds and left no actual room for walking or opening the balcony door for example. The village is just a huge tourist trap. No delux. No sea view. After complaining we were offered an upgrade but frankly it was late and I’m sure the “upgrade” would be equally disappointing. It’s a bit like an up market Butlins.

New B&B positioned in Brucoli , near Augusta ( 5 km) , Catania Airport (25 km) , Siracusa (30 km). the best solution with the best view
B&B Brucoli was just what we needed. Lovely Italian, modern and active family (Diana and Francesco with two lovey boys). They have rented us two bikes to get to lovely shore (recommended by Francesco) where me and my husband were almost alone and did some nice snorkeling. In the morning we woke up to the view of Etna and smell of the croissants freshly baked by Diana :) We enjoyed also one km walks to the local small port and panificio - local bakery (one of them is also next to the B&B). The place is very clean and modern and safe and we felt very welcomed.

Located at the top of the hill from the port and quite difficult to find. Friendly staff - not much English spoken - but always happy to try and help. Had a room in the separate annex building up the steps from the covered pool. Food was fantastic and the restaurant was always busy with locals which is always a good sign. Breakfast was a buffet of usual cold meats and cheeses but always plentiful and fresh. Room was fine but a little dated, the shower was tiny. Overall a good stay and great value for money.

The Venus Sea Garden Resort is situated among the rocks of a splendid bay, where you can lose yourself in the soft harmony of its sandstone construction. The hotel is extended upon a promontory, in a charming setting filled with gardens rich with beautiful flowers and terraces overlooking the sea. Furthermore, the resort enjoys unbeatable views of Etna.
When we booked in June we checked and the reviews were good. I don't know what happened but there was no way that this was 4 star. The only redeeming features were the three wonderful staff, Giuseppe, Sayeed and Veronica and without them, we would have considered walking out. The rooms are tired and although clean, I could not see the need for a rubber sheet on the bed. If I become incontinent I will let hotels know. There was only one rubbish bin in the whole room - in the bathroom. The shower curtain was too short. The hairdryer was like a light breeze. The public areas were unkempt and I did not once see the outside paths being swept. There were broken hammocks outside on the lawn. When wanting to sit round the pool no staff helped with umbrellas or sunbeds. The area was rarely tidied and I did not see the pool being cleaned. One night there was a storm and subsequent power cut (not the fault of the hotel of course) but the next night the outside lights remained out and guests were having to walk around with their mobile phones in torch mode. But the real and major let down was the food which was totally unacceptable. There was very little choice at either breakfast or dinner - both buffet style. The food which was there was repetitive and was not kept hot. For a country that makes its own wine, bar prices were outrageously high. This hotel is quite remote and there are no restaurants in walking distance so we reluctantly put up with the food. An example is that one evening the menu advertised pork with potatoes. No sign of potatoes and when asked, the restaurant "manager" shrugged her shoulders and said that they didn't have any. It was obvious that some of their pasta dishes contained leftovers from the night before. Very worrying as far as food hygiene is concerned! All in all a bad hotel experience and I could not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Owners were very efficient & friendly re arrival and finding the place etc & turned up promptly after phoning us as we were on our way - impressive - the place was clean & comfortable tho we didn't get the harbour view. Breakfast was disappointing as there was no-one else around & we fended for ourselves - one tea bag and an empty jar of Nutella! - some cereal & stuff in packets. The view we had was obscured by bedding airing on a line at 9.30 am - this is an ok stop over when heading south from Catania after an evening arrival - the area is very industrial

There was no one when we arrived. And it was raining hard. So had to call and wait... We had the biggest room with partial sea view. But the shower enclosure was tiny and smelly... The bedsheets were clean as was the room in general. But the internet access did not during the 2 days. We could connect to the router (ultra long password in Italian to make things difficult) but no internet... we asked to get it fixed but nothing... Breakfast was at a local coffee place. Was alright and quite a sight for watching locals... During our entire stay there was no one else but in the premises. We felt a bit lonely and not totally safe if anything was to happen. Staff was friendly but eager to leave us alone. We were even asked to pay one day in advance so that they could have their Sunday off. Overall we were not impressed and would likely not stay again or advise anyone to stay.

This is a family run B&B, offering comfortable accommodation with beautiful views of the sea. Santo and Nella and their daughter, Adriana, are warm hearted hosts and made us feel very welcome indeed. We felt part of the family with their hospitality. They are well travelled very interesting people and we were able to enjoy informative conversation and have a good laugh as well. Ask about the restaurant just around the corner from them, it serves delicious food. At breakfast Nella cooked us a delicious omelette as she knew I couldnt eat sweet food. I know she serves typical Sicilian breakfasts as well. We shall certainly return to stay in this wonderful friendly house.
