It is the seat of the municipality of Lavreotiki. Laurium was famous in Classical antiquity for its silver mines, which was one of the chief sources of revenue of the Athenian state. The metallic silver was mainly used for coinage. The Archaeological Museum of Lavrion shows much of the story of these mines.

Our first visit was in the deli at the entrance of the restaurant. A deli full of very interesting products from several places and producers in Greece. As we had promised to ourselves, we returned to this cozy restaurant to be served, by warm people, gourmet dishes in reasonable prices. We ordered grilled octopus, grilled sardines, squid and shrimps. Everything was tasteful and well cooked. I would totally recommend it to everyone who would like to have seafood in Lavrio without spending a lot of money.

The owners of this restaurant were fantastic. They went above and beyond in service. Some of our group are very picky eaters and didn't enjoy most of our meals in Greece. The Crepes and omlettes here were fabulous. The owners were very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend a visit to Moto Crepes By the Sea!
