Best known as the birthplace of St. Francis, Italy's patron saint, Assisi lies amid Umbria's rolling hills. Religious pilgrims have come here for centuries to visit the Basilica of San Francesco (where St. Francis is buried) and the Basilica of Santa Chiara (to see the tomb of St. Clare). Visit the Eremo delle Carceri to see caves where medieval hermits withdrew from the world. (You may find such solitude quite appealing—especially if you're here on a daytrip from Rome!)

Amazing modern take on local Italian produce. The Gorgonzola soufflé with pear and walnuts was sublime and the pork with caponata, onion and yoghurt to die for.

Having dinner looking at Roman ruins through a glass floor is truly a unique experience. Add delicious food and gracious service and you have an incredible experience. It was expensive, but well worth it.
My wife and I had the Chief's choice. We especially enjoyed the salmon course. It was very refreshing on a particularly hot night in Assisi. The waiter gave us excellent service and was eager to tell us about the history of the restaurant and the area.
The Chief came by our table twice to ask us about our experience and tell us about his visits to the U.S. We were delighted by our dining experience at La Locanda del Cardinale.
For local history buffs, we were told that the piazza outside the restaurant was where St. Francis removed his clothes and renounced his worldly possessions.
We look forward to returning.

Umbria is a place of ancient agricultural origins, a land mostly known for its hearty aromas, the simplicity of its food and the genuine intensity of its flavors. The delicious dishes our Chef prepares recount this part of our region's history: every day, we dedicate great care to the choice of fresh ingredients, such as vegetables and meat, selected from the smallest and best farms in area, according to season to guarantee the utmost freshness. At the same time, pasta, bread, cakes and ice cream are handcrafted daily in our kitchen. Eat Out-Osteria Gourmet welcomes you into its charming arms and promises to please every palate.
I lived at hotel near this osteria. Not bad, but nothing fantastic. Good pasta with truffles but this is normal for Assisi))) I recommend to go somewhere outside hotel)))

Restaurant, shop and art gallery. Traditional Umbrian cuisine with organic products, km0 / 100 solutions with gluten free, lactose free and vegetarian. BIOTIPICA shop with sale and tasting of the products on the menu to buy right away or to be received at the hotel or at home with shipments all over the world- Art gallery with Exhibitions and installations by local artists and from around the world to tell, enjoy and experience the region.
Delicious Umbrian cuisine comes out of a tiny kitchen, cheerfully served, reliably delicious. A bit off the main drag, it's well worth seeking out. Good prices, a fairly short but more than adequate all local wine list. The walks are hung with art, excellent ambience. Would like to go back again, if we weren't moving on.

Very popular shop. The pizza has a fabulous taste and is light and crispy. The sandwiches also are delicious. It's very popular and busy at times. It's right outside San Rufino so you can plan your visit to both. Closed mondays. Stop by. Best pizza in town

Excellent stop for a quick bite - you can even choose the type of flour (4 choices in total I believe) your 'toastie'. The walnut/honey/chicory toastie special is tremendous!
Service is quick and extremely friendly. We even got offered some biscuits for free - once chocolate and one with a star anise base. Both delicious.
Overall, really good.

This place made the top of the list in Assisi because the food, ambiance, and service were of excellent quality. Roberto the owner was so nice and we chatted about his inspiration for the restaurant while having a coffee. I really hope I can visit this place again in the future cause I need to do a beer tasting!

Steps from the historic central piazza. Family owned and operated. Local and fresh meals for breakfast and dinner. Coffee, pastries, local wine, beer and a full bar. Wood-burning fireplace for the chilly days and air-conditioned during the summer. Homemade lasagna, tiramisu and fresh pasta daily.
This small restaurant near the main square was not crowded and had the beast service and food we've had in Italy. We were offered a complementary aperatif immediately and the owner came right over to explain the menu. The fiochetti, a small pasta purse filled with gorgonzola ,with a pear sauce, was a wonderful combination on sweet and salty. The gnocchi with Bolognese was light and delicious, enjoyed with as bottle of the local white wine. Also shared an antipasto of gator with tomatoes and arugula. You will love this place!
