A collaboration between Chef Harley Ray Guy and Owner Skyler Reeves, Barley Hound opened in May of 2015. With a large dog friendly patio, welcoming casual atmosphere, and outstanding food and drinks it has quickly become one of Prescott's favorite restaur
My wife and I visited The Barley Hound restaurant in Prescott, AZ, on a Monday evening in July, 2019. This was part of her birthday celebration getaway. Since we were staying at the hotel right next door to this restaurant, we thought weâd give it a try.The view of this restaurant from the sidewalk reveals what appears to be an older house converted into a restaurant. There was a fairly large outdoor dining patio with booths, small tables and a few bar-style tables and bar stools. We went inside and were greeted by a very, very young man (his physiognomy appeared to be that of a scared young person) who escorted us to a table near the sidewalk, provided us with menus and then off he went. After just a few minutes we were greeted by our waitress (C******n). She portrayed a very nice smile and warmly welcomed us to the Barley Hound. I asked her if there were any specials that were not on the menu and she said, âyes, we have a trout special. We asked for a few minutes to peruse the menu and off she went. After another 2-3 minutes one of her helpers brought two water glasses and a carafe filled with water and containing a sprig of mint. When the waitress returned we ordered. My wife ordered the Shrimp and Pasta. I ordered the Red Trout. After about a fifteen (15) minute wait, my wifeâs pasta and 5-shrimp entree was delivered. But alas, mine was nowhere in sight. The waitress said that my meal would be delivered shortly. So while waiting I suggested my wife start eating while it was still hot. She took a taste of the pasta and said that it was appropriately hot, very tasty, as well as just a little spicy. Then she looked at the shrimp. Her first comment was, âI think itâs rawâ. She cut into the shell and removed a small portion of one of the shrimp and took a bite. Her expression of shock was very apparent, i.e., it was grossly under-cooked. She offered me a small bite. I bit into it and immediately spit it out into a napkin. It was indeed raw.At this point, still no Red Trout...The waitress returned and apologized for the delay with my trout. While she was there I told her about the raw shrimp. She apologized for that and offered to relocate the shrimp to a little plate for returning to the kitchen and so that my wife could at least eat some of the pasta while still waiting for my entrée to be served. Still waiting, waiting, waiting (about 30 minutes in total)... but still no red trout to be seen...After a few more minutes the waitress returned to the table only to explain that it was her fault that the trout was delayed (?). She apologized multiple times and then off she went.So after another few minutes went by, someone from the kitchen served my red trout. So from the time my wifeâs entrée was first served, it was about thirty-five (35) minutes until my entrée arrived. But whose counting? Well quite frankly, I was.About the tardy red trout: The plate was warm, the red trout, spinach and potatoes were all appropriately hot and cooked to a proper degree of doneness. There were actually two trout filets; one on top of the vegetables and another actually hidden under the vegetables. The taste of the trout and the vegetables was actually quite nice with a distinct aftertaste of lemon. So I was pleased with the red trout special. While I was getting started on my trout, the waitress returned with my wifeâs shrimp. My wife tested one of the four (fifth was gone) and said that it was indeed cooked to an appropriate degree of doneness. After we were finished with our entrees, the waitress returned and offered to provide a complementary desert, perhaps a slice of cheesecake. We accepted. It was delivered about five minutes later and had a little candle on top. A nice gesture. So after another five minutes or so, the manager (I assume) and the waitress came to our table and both apologized for the delays. The waitress asked if we consumed alcohol? We said yes. The manager explained that they had a little mix-up with my red trout order. He apologized again and departed. A few minutes later he came to our table with two glasses of a sparkling white wine. It was a very nice gesture.Overall: The service and the attitude of the manager and waitress was commendable. They apologized for the problems and exerted special effort to make amends. The waitressâs service was actually very good, albeit she admitted to making the mistake with the red trout order (perhaps forgot to place the order?).The setting outside on the patio is very pleasant with mature trees surrounding the property.Remember the mention of the â...very, very young man (his physiognomy appeared to be that of a scared young person)...â? During our stay it seems he dropped at least two trays of drinks...we really felt sorry for that young man.Hereâs the most important bottom line question â will we be back? I believe so and hereâs why... While there were a few screw-ups with the timing, the waitress and the manager did what was reasonable and responsible to make amends. The food...One âNoâ and one âYesâ. So weâll see the next time we visit the Barley Hound restaurant in Prescott, Arizona.

We like the brew and food here. Right on the plaza and open later than most. Try the great beers and give a local place a try while checking out the plaza.
7 of us were looking for a bar that had the Pac 12 network and this one did (the ones downtown didnt) Very local. Very friendly service, better than average food. We covered much of the menu-salads, burgers, french dip. Good beer selection. Only issue was the smoking section while outside was in a sealed room and you could still smell smoke. Bothered one in our party
First off, the owners have well-planned this business to effectively manage opening, challenges with their new brewery, fixing them then expanding days open, adding music, etc. The restaurant has a nice feel and culture to the place. I expect them to become a 5 star place! Their own beer will be available mid-October. Their current beers on tap are good as is their food. Food is mainly appetizers, sandwiches and burgers and soups, salads. They are better and more creative than ordinary or standard food.

Went there to see a friend's band. Had a great pizza and 2 strong drinks. Enjoyed a giant salad to start. As a former chef, I know food. Any restaurant can have an off night or get overwhelm with customers. Try this place for yourself. It is cute, fun and delicious.Thank you for coming in. We look forward to having you back. Thank you for the kind words!
