Read previous reviews of Maverick when it was located in Pine, AZ and they were a mixture of good and bad. Decided to give this place a try in their new location in Payson and thought that maybe things were different than previous reviews have stated, they weren't. Waitress was friendly and doing her best as the only wait staff. Looked over the menu and decided to stay on the "cheaper" side of items due to previous reviews. My wife and I ordered fish tacos ($7.95) and bbq chicken sandwich ($8.95). Order came out rather quickly but there were only a few others in the restaurant at the time. Fish tacos were fish (dry and no seasoning) in a tortilla with one pickle slice and a few pieces of chopped up lettuce on the side. That's it, no sauce or anything. The bbq chicken (have picture but unable to upload on a new business review in TA) was chopped up chicken that was dry and came with two pickle slices and some chopped up lettuce. Would have thought bbq chicken might have had some more sauce or something. Mustard, salt and pepper, were the only condiments on the table. Anything else needed to be requested. Overall, food was uninteresting and bland, and I could have made better at home. Definitely better flavor and juicier.Wasn't sure what rating to give this place as I was eating, however, another customer was in sitting at the bar waiting for a to go order. This customer received his order, left and then returned a short while later. He came in with his order and complained about the $18 he had just spent on a half chicken with potato salad order and received a thigh and leg and a smattering of potato salad. He was very upset and the owner/cook came out to talk to him. Instead of trying to make things right for the customer and earn his business, the cook decided to argue with the customer and show him the half chicken in the box. From what I could see, it was very small. The customer was not offered his money back.Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this establishment. In a town of fast food restaurants, I was looking forward to supporting a local business. I hope the owner turns things around and is successful but until then, I will be spending my hard earned dollars elsewhere.Sorry you don't care for the food. For the record everything is served with sauce on the side so customers add as little or as much as they like. We keep our Ketchup refrigerated, not on the table (my choice for freshness) and same for serving the various sauces on the plate v. sitting on the table all day.. Regarding your story....sorry, inaccurate. The customer WAS offered his money back & refused. Second; he was pretty intoxicated (which accounted for his behavior). He was given a full half-chicken in the to go container. He returned about 30 minutes later with his complaint. I honestly think he ate half of it and forgot he had done so. Just btw there is no $18 chicken on the menu. We certainly understand that constructive criticism comes with the territory, but expect that folks offering opinions be accurate and factual.
We had a group of 6 adults, 1 child. Two of us had the chicken. Very dry. Two had ribs. One said the ribs were too fatty, the other thought they were tasty. The service was fair at best. She didn't bring water that was requested and had no interest in helping us with the very wobblely table. We found a door stop nearby and fixed it ourselves. The only napkins were obviously left over from an event and said Happy Birthday. We had to ask to get them at all. There were two very large dead bugs on the floor on the way to the bathroom. The trash in the ladies room apparently hadn't been emptied for quite some time as we were there the previous Saturday nite and there were no paper towels then.
