Friendly service, generous servings, but very bland food. A little salt makes a big difference - during the cooking process, but once it's in a bowl on the table, no amount of seasoning will bring flavour to a bland, under-seasoned meal. Both main meals were tasteless and diappointing.
Despite the ordinary food, this place seems very popular with locals.
As for us, we'll be trying other places when next in town.

Coffee Pies and pastries Large range of slices and cakes Salad rolls and sandwiches Bain Marie dishes and fried foods Cold drinks Ice creams
Stopped here for lunch after visiting J Ward on a busy long weekend. Lots of people but service was fast and efficient. We went for something simple and our group all had a different meat pie with coffee/soft drink. Excellent pies for which they appear to have won a number of awards. Good for service and quality food.

This is a solid little pub in Ararat. As long as you remember that you are in a pub in Ararat, and order accordingly, you will have a tasty meal and a chilled beer that pleases. Schnitzel was a winner. Burger was less well received - clumpy meat. Chips a solid choice. Ambience as you would expect from a pub in a small town.

This was a lovely cafe with gorgeous decor. The staff were lovely and were able to make recommendations.

Although this Cafe is in the centre of town being Barkly St Ararat we often stop off here on way through to Melbourne from Nhill. There is a bypass you can take and of course miss out on the main centre of town where the coffee and lunch shops are. Great Cafe, wonderful owners who have been up in Ararat for over 5 years and always welcome you into their Cafe. Try the eggs benedict which is superb and the coffee is great but ask for a hot hot hot cup and strong or you may get a cup of milk. We have got to know the owners and make this Cafe to what it is now. Opposite the Post Office and there is usually plenty of parking although meter charged. Ararat is on the way through to the Grampians and a good 'stop off' to replenish your caravan or whatever. Enjoy!

Great fresh ingredients, friendly owner who is also head chef. No msg used so no nasty reactions. (Unlike the more expensive alternative next door)
You pay for the quality food. Decor is basic but exactly what you need. Why pay for decor when what your looking for is something nutritious and fast.
We go there at least once a week and have always had great food.

I went here because they advertised "Takeaway" ... looked at the menu and ordered a pasta.. We do not do takeaway pasta...Oh Ok i'll have pizza instead . drove back to motel (less than a Minute away) and went to have the pizza and all it was was "Mush" I could have rung out a cup of moisture out of it - it was that soggy
Very disappointed

Visiting Ararat while staying at Moyston. Main menu was a variety of chicken schnitzels and chicken dishes but there was a specials menu that had a roast and a beef schnitzel choice. Partner had beef schnitzel, chips and gravy (only plain gravy available) and I had roast lamb. We sat out on the balcony overlooking the park so we could have our dog tied up on the fencing next to us. Meal was quickly delivered. My partner said his beef schnitzel was grissley. Lamb roast came with boiled/roast potatoes, peas, mint sauce, parsnip and carrots and gravy. Was a good portion.
