We were walking off the beaten track in downtown Tarifa where we came across this little gem of a cafe which served healthy fresh food at a reasonable price, especially compared to the local beach bars on the seafront.I had a lovely salad bowl with quinoa whilst my partner made up his own meal which the staff were happy to cook for him. The staff were friendly and very warm and made us feel welcome, and even made us a free pot of tea! After three weeks of Spanish food we were grateful for a tea and a more international type of food, with the added bonus that the staff spoke English so we didn't have to inflict our bad Spanish on anyone. It really is worth the walk down to the Mercado at the bottom of the town at Tarifa where the new shopping area is beginning to shape up.Don't be put off by the surrounding building projects as you have the opportunity to sit and chill with some lovely people and good healthy food, most vegetarian but also meat too so something for everyone really.

Lunchtime on the main street. Busy when we were there. Service was fine. Food was good. Burgers/ hot dogs and salads. Good value and a go again. This is not a sophisticated place but who wants sophistication in Tarifa!
Andalucia, Spain Food Guide: 10 Barbecue food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Tarifa
I should have known. I was tired of seafood and paella. Oh well. Here goes. I did not order a burger as I knew about Spanish beef. I order Costilla. Thinking it was rib meat, it came out as a chopped something. Not sure. Pathetic. Then they slathered the bread with bbq sauce. Horrible!!!. I did not eat the bread or the sauce. Tasted like Heintz 57.I ordered cold slaw as well. Ick. Mostly raisins. The worst I have ever eaten. I removed all of the raisins. At least a half a cup. As I said, I should have known. Oh well. Stick with Paella or fish!Lastly, 45 minutes to bring to the table. Oh, I was the only customer.Hi Gary. Oh, we're sorry you didn't enjoy your visit. Our Costilla burger is made of meat from that part of the pork. About bbq sauce, it's homemade, it's not any kind of Heinz sauce. And spanish beef, well, it's a good kind of beef, and we have selected meat to make our burgers. And lastly, our coleslaw is always good, or so our customers say. We don't think that your meal was horrible, it looks more like your were tired of our wonderful country, Spain, and the food. Maybe, next time, you should choose better before you get angry about this fact. ;) Regards!
