Find out what Spanish restaurants to try in Huaraz. Huaraz dates back to before the Incan Empire and is a great destination for travelers looking to combine cultural education with relaxation. Explore archaeological sites and the ancient stone monoliths at the Museo Regional de Ancash. Squeeze into narrow Duck Canyon or, for a challenge with a massively beautiful payoff, hike a mountain trail in Huascarán National Park.

Av. Luzuriaga has tons of places to eat lunch/dinner, but we were craving menu. La Rustika was opened for lunch with menu, and the prices were great (7 soles or 10 soles, depending on your meal) and the chicha morada was tasty! Their escabeche de pollo was really good, as was their bistek a lo pobre, which came with sweet plantains, rice, papas, meat & salad. Everything had great flavor and was prepared quickly, which was good for our hungry stomachs. Even their bathrooms get my stamp of approval (they have paper!) I recommend La Rustika to anyone wanting to try menu in Huaraz for a good price.

Had the Eucalyptus Trout, was excellent and came with perfectly roasted potatoes and kind of marinated salad. Lady who served me was lovely and very patient despite my zero knowledge of Spanish. In hindsight suspect she was trying to recommend menu of the day with ceviche which looked yum. Could not fault my meal though, the sauce on the trout was amazing.

Ceviche de chocho is a dish that almost every huaracino eats. Its main component is chocho or tarwi (Lupinus mutabilis), an edible bean variety from the Andes. In Taita you can try it and also see some pictures of Huaraz before the earthquake of 1970.

We stumbled across this place when looking for somewhere for a quick lunch. The menu del dia was perfect, with lots of different options to choose from and ranging from 11 soles up to 28. For that you got a veggie starter, a pasta soup and then whatever you’d chosen as main. Excellent food, great value. The place is spotless. Service is a little slow, but it’s a big hit with the locals - people queuing out the door for a midweek lunch.
