Monolithic gates still protect Amersfoort, a well-preserved medieval city that remains connected to its history. Built into the foundations of 13th-century defensive walls, the Muurhuizen wall houses are one of the city’s most intriguing features. Art enthusiasts should visit the Mondriaan House (birthplace of abstract artist Piet Mondriaan) and the Armando Museum, a collection of works by the famed Dutch painter.

We stayed at this fabulous Hotel for 4 nights with our tour party of 36 from Great Rail Journeys. Check in was very efficient and husband and I were given a room on the 6th floor. Your room key card operates the lift and we liked this security feature. The ceilings in the Hotel are very high as are the doors but the lighting is very dim everywhere. Our room was great, large with twin beds, a refrigerator, safe and large wardrobe. The shower room was great too with walk in shower, large sink and countertop, toilet and hairdryer. The bonus was a switch for underfloor heating! The downside of the shower was that the soap dispenser was about 3feet away from the water so you had to keep stepping out of the water to get soap on your face cloth. The dispenser near the washbasin was also in an awkward place. Small niggles I know but niggles none the less. We had 4 very comfortable nights here with breakfast. Special mention must go to the serving staff and chef ( male) who could not do enough for you. The chef made me the most delicious pancakes on a couple of mornings. There was a good selection of continental meats and cheeses and lovely fresh crusty bread. Neither of us had anything hot from the large serving dishes as we preferred the fruits and yoghurts on offer. We would love to stay at this Hotel again.

I have been here many times as this hotel is close to the offices I need to go to. But the disappointment is lately very much increasing. Receptionists seem young and inexperienced but mostly distant and can be even rude. The two last times we were staying here one of our leaders was treated very poorly at the restaurant (had to ask 5 times ! for his drink, food and the check). Couldn’t check while he arrived at 7pm. My room today (511) is dirty and the fridge is full of disgusting left overs. They offered to change me to another one for disabled as the hotel was full. The only good thing left is the breakfast if you ask me. But I will avoid to come back from now on.

A different kind of hotel in the middle of the city, next to the tower. You check in at the Long John's Pub and will sleep in a nice and clean room with good beds. The nice and friendly staff is willing to help you to discover the wonderful city of Amersfoort.
Reasonable price, great staff in pub. Great location. Thanks. Would definitely come again. No noise noticed from pub (on 2nd floor). Downside: no elevator (pub staff will assist as needed). Morning pub staff (Ish, Jeanine, Pim) were great.

Ample parking Lots of nature around the hotel Traffic noise is hardly there after 8pm The restaurant is good. The chef clearly knows her/his trade. Everything was prepared very well. Two little issues. If you prepare a delicious lime sauce don't put a quarter lemon on the plate. The meat was cooked to perfection (blue) but sadly the meat was not as tender as one would hope and expect. And that was due to the quality of the meat not to the preparation In the restaurant they took their covid measures seriously. The breakfast was mostly good. The only bad thing about it was the scrambled eggs. They either came out of a bottle or a bag and were not very good. Neither the texture nor the taste. The room was big enough, the beds comfortable but a bit on the narrow side The airco worked well and silently but the control dish had disappeared so it was a bit of a struggle to get it to the cold temperature we like. The room was clean, and was cleaned well after our first night. A big no no is the door to the bathroom/shower room. It was made of heavily frosted glass. In my opinion there is no earthly reason to do that. Really, I love my wife, but I don't particularly want to see her use the facilities, nor do I want to be seen using the facilities. This is a fad I noticed in more hotels while looking for this one. I don't understand it and I don't like it. From now on it is on our checklist for a hotel room. In the back there is a lovely terras that is partly covered. A joy to spend time there. The bar. Limited and some odd things: instead of the campari/soda they have a campari/tonic. When you ask for a margarita they ask if you mean a pizza. I don't expect a bar to have the makings of an old fashioned drink like a margarita. I do expect anyone working in a bar to know what it is.

The owner of this hotel struck me as a very hard working, kind and helpfull man. I had a great time staying at his hotel for a short business trip. The hotel is situated in a nice neighbourhood, just outside of the city centre of Amersfoort. It is only a 5 minute walk to shops, restaurants and main sights to see so the location is perfect. It can be a bit of a search for a parkingspot, but you're bound to find one in the area after a couple of minutes. Me and my colleague both had a single room, which were located in a small building attached to the back of the main building. The rooms were simply decorated, but very tidy and clean. They contained everything you might need for a short trip. Think tv, desk, suitcase holder, wardrobe with hangers etc, and a lovely bed with the nicest and softest bedding! I noticed that we received new towels every day, which shows good service. The breakfast was well organised too. There were lots of options in different beverages, breadrolls, cheeses and deli meats. Also, there was fresh fruit every day. Everything considering, I thought the prices were very reasonable. I would definitely book another stay here if I'm in town for business again!

Amersfoort Berghotel, i.e. Mountain hotel, is located in the fine height area, southwest Amersfoort. The Dutch, most of them living in flat land, below sea level, call it the mountain area. Interesting Dutch exaggeration. Every slope a mountain. Anyhow, the Berghotel, well located also for a stroll through the adjacent woodland just across the street, is a fine hotel, friendly and knowledgeable staff, good bar and restaurant, fine outside seating too. Even their relatively lowest prized rooms are well equipped with coffee/tea facility and aircon. As often in Dutch hotels the interior designer has had the idea that low light is cosy. Thus, the entrance area with check in desk and adjacent big table with newspapers is darkish. Read a newspaper at ease: forget it or bring your own light. I really do not understand the interior designers. You’ll suffer their work in a lot of fine Dutch hotels, such as the Berghotel, that I can recommend. Good breakfast buffet too.

The NH Amersfoort hotel gives you the advantage of a central location in the historical city of Amersfoort, just five minutes walking to the Amersfoort Central Station and two minutes from the old city center.
After a long and difficult journey from the UK we were greeted by the warm, engaging smile of Danielle at the reception desks, and those troubles began to fade. When the initial interaction at a hotel is this warm and welcoming it reflects really well on the property. The hotel itself, being an NH, is well located, clean and nicely appointed, but it’s our experience at reception that we will remember.
