It was an amazing discovery in a little village not too far from Beja. An old tavern with magnificent snacks at a reasonable price. If you have the chance to go with a group even better as you can try many traditional Portuguese gastronomy very well done. The house red wine is good and don't miss the Deserts.

Alvito in Autumn is not overblessed with dining possibilities, and this looked like (and was) a cosy, welcoming place. The locals were dining there and it is clearly popular. But in common with other eateries, there is little idea of how to treat diners even in the smarter places, let alone the spit and sawdust ones. There was none of the cheese whose description in a previous review had helped entice me in. The vegetable caldo (clear broth) we ordered was forgotten, out came the main courses, and they were not so good when kept warm as we ate the soup! The wine list was good and we ordered a 2004 red which really needed decanting to remove the debris: this is a wine growing area and locals should know that. The main course was hearty and good, but not above the normal. The desert and coffee was fine, too.
This may be a better option when it is busier in high season, but be prepared for hit and miss (even indifferent) service and gastronomic highs and lows. While acceptable, lots of other rustic places in Alentejo are way better.

Adega of Casa de Monte Pedral, with a privileged location in the heart of the village of Cuba, presents an imposing decoration, with vaulted, traditional oven and 12 giant size carvings. In Alentejo lands they could not be lacking as crumbs with meat from the bowl or as tomato soup with fish. But as diverse alternatives as the lamb chops with olive crumbs, the beans with little drumsticks and the secret, the stew of lamb, a açorda of garlic or cod and as soups of cação. Sometimes it is possible to watch Alentejo songs to the torn.
It was not the best day to go to this particular tavern because it was completely crowded with a group of about 80 people. For that reason we could not choose from the menu but had to accept the owner suggestion as the group had previously defined what they were going to eat and it was a deception. We were also served a regional cheese (from Alentejo) but it was spoiled. The house wine was delicious and the other good thing about our visit was that after the meal there was live music and dance. So it ended to be quite amusing to be there but we have to return to taste the real food served in that charismatic place.

Cellar with a wide choice of dishes. If you have not taste the food of the region of Alentejo this is the perfect place to do it. Just ask the owner for a suggestion and for sure you will like what he brings you to eat.

We end up on this restaurant door at 9pm and it smelled good so we went for it.
The regional cheese, olives, (1/2) chicken was nice, salad, fries, great (1/2L) red wine from the area, a very good dessert and 2 coffees. The price, a joke, 13€.
And best of all, the waiter was really friendly and helpfull.
The down side is the menu, there were like 3 options.

This was the best robalo (snook or some say sea bass) we've ever eaten. One serving was plenty for two. And at fifteen euros cash, it was a bargain. The vinho verde (green wine - an effervescent young white wine) - was every good.

Restaurant “A Cave” – Viano do Alentejo.
Nice restaurant who was recommended to us among some others by the tourist office.
We were eating there at noon, after we returned from our visit to the nearby located “Sanctuario de Nossa Senhora de Aires” at about 2 km from the restaurant.
It is a typical & regional who serves typical plates, and is located just outside the centre, we had two entries, two typical plates, and a house wine and have paid 25€.
The quality of the food is fresh and good, so price quality are more than ok, the owner is very friendly, it is very clean, and has enough place for about 70 persons.
Anyhow we can warmly recommend this restaurant to the people who are visiting the village.
