This place is a staple in Alexandria. Off of highway nine it has a nice bar and some great great food. Chicken, tenderloin, and other selections but this place will nit disappoint in the food department at all. Fish is outstanding as well. A place to definitely go to eat if you are around for sure.

I am going to give this restaurant a "Very Good", but it comes close to an "Excellent". Arrived on a Friday night with a 6:30 reservation for seven. We were immediately seated. Not many places of this sort take reservations, so that was a plus.
It is really a bar with a family dining room attached, so jeans and a T-shirt fit right in. The wait staff was pleasant, attentive, and efficient. Our waitress (Molly) was a gem. The crowd included old-timers, several families, and couples and singles of all ages.
As a sidebar, the staff were all wearing Tin Plate t-shirts that contained on the back a tribute to our military, including our fallen heroes and POWs/MIAs. As a veteran, I appreciated that, and even bought a Tin Plate T-shirt that I did not need.
The menu was surprisingly extensive and varied, from beef and chicken to shrimp, with ribbon fries, fried cheese curds, sampler baskets, and much, much more. Two of my group ordered a prime rib sandwich that they thoroughly enjoyed. I tried (stole) one of my wife's fried shrimp, which I enjoyed with the kicked-up cocktail sauce that accompanied it. All in all, the locals must really like this place. It was wall-to-wall with a small waiting line to boot. It was also not seedy, sticky, or so loud that you could not talk to or hear others at your table.
So why the "Very Good" rating? With the exception of my wife's shrimp, everything that I tasted that was fried (cheese curds, onion rings, ribbon fries, chicken strips) had a greasy taste/after-taste to them that I could not ignore. Too long in the deep fryer/old cooking oil/not blotting off the excess oil, I don't know, but it made the fried food less than delicious, at least to me. Also, for what it is worth, it took just over an hour to get our food, although the wait staff was hustling. That was about 15 minutes longer than I normally consider acceptable.
Bottom line: This place is worth a half hour drive to try, if only to experience the genuinely pleasant atmosphere and staff. It is obviously a local favorite, and 5/7 of my group liked the food as well. I will be back, but will stay away from the fried selections, except for the shrimp. I might try a week night, when things are probably not so busy.

This is the BEST Root beer stand chain I've ever been to! It's a walk up/car hop style stand that has the usual food - hamburgers, coney dogs, floats, etc. that you'd expect from a small town root beer stand. The car hop was fantastic and quick (also very helpful with directions to Indiana's biggest White Oak tree nearby!). But you go here for the root beer - literally the best I've ever tasted from a root beer stand. Wonderful taste and bite - with absolutely NO aftertaste!! Stop in here and enter root beer heaven!

Not a fancy place but nice people and attentive service. The best breaded tenderloin sandwiches around! It is good that I don't live in Alexandria or I would eat one every day.

I know there are lots of Chili Poblanos, but I particularly like this one---and especially my favorite dish, the Pollo Loco Poblano.
Start off with one of their great margaritas, then switch to a frosty mug of Dos Equis with the main course. I'm assuming
you'll pass on the appetizers because of the copious amounts of corn chips and salsa they give you. Yumm!
My wife likes the veggie burritos---plenty to take home.
Very satisfying.

Pizza King began serving our delicious menu in 1956. Our signature "cut into squares" pizza of only fresh, high quality ingredients and diced pepperoni has made us a favorite pizza place for generations of customers. Always fresh, nothing frozen. Pizza King restaurants started in Indiana and now are located throughout the midwest. Stop by our store in Tipton and Alexandria, Indiana for a truly special pizza, sandwich and salad experience!!
I was there with a large group and we ordered several types of pizza: Royal Feast, Washburn, pepperoni, cheese, and veggie. The first two contained very interesting collections of flavored and spices. But man were they greasy!
The other three pizza types were pretty typical, average in flavor and taste.
The crusts of all the pizzas were almost impossible to cut. The crust was not burnt, just tough. I finally gave up and just ate big square pieces (slices).
Our server was excellent: so friendly and always keep beverage pitchers full.

We now live in TN, and we had these cupcakes driven to our home over 7 hours, all the way from Alexandria, Indiana for our daughter's 18th birthday. You will not have a better cupcake anywhere. And, Rachel, the owner, is as sweet as she can be. You have to go there, you will not regret it!!
