Alentejo à Mesa, the hotel's soul, is clearly a "must visit" restaurant. Its delicious, traditional cuisine and award winning wines will definitely conquer all guests and visitors. The restaurant offers a good selection of tasting dishes with the best Ale
While staying at the hotel, I tried for 2 times to have dinner here. 1. The service: a complete mess! The waiters are unprepared and extremely impolite, it takes an hour to get their attention and they do NEVER smile! When I asked for a normal size wine glass (because the 1st one was gigantic and weighted a ton), he poured me the wine in a water glass he had with him.2. The food is just ok and overpriced. Too oily and not at all remarkable.Don't recommend.Greetings from Alentejo,Thank you for sharing your experience, although it was not the best it will sure help us to improve our service. We regret about what you are telling us here, this information will pass through the team in order to have some changes.Thank you!

We went here to have dinner. We had "lagartixas". Thr lagartixas were well cooked and tasty when mixed with lemon. The sides were pretty uninteresting (fries and rice) which downplayed the dish a bit. Deserts were limited. The service was rushed and sometimes they just dropped stuff on the table without eveb saying anything. There are far better choices in Extremoz for this price range (37⬠for 2, without wine, with deserts).

We ate here one lunch time as our first choice restuarant was heaving. O Carlos was also full with locals and we were lucky to get a table. We had a great fixed menu including drinks for 8 suros. Food was filling and wholesome. Staff were busy but attentive. Not much english spoken. Great value lunch.Thank you for your visit and feedback. We hope they come back because we are always ready to receive you.Tasca "O Carlos"

Never had a menu handed to me on a little iPad before, but it was great because we got it in English! Did think it was a bit cheeky of them to have the table beautiful set with "the cover" ie: bread, cheese, olives etc for which you are charged extra in this case 6.50 Euro. I don't like to sound mean here but there is no nice way of saying no thanks when it is already all there.Excellent wine list. Can only comment on the soup because we were only in for a snack and it was delicious.Thank you very much for your evaluation. With regard to the entries arranged on the table, if the customersare not interested in them, they can ask that they be lifted withoutany problem and cost for this.We hope to see you more often. Atenciosamente, Equipa Alecrim

THE HISTORY OF THE OLD GAOL OF ESTREMOZ The old judicial gaol of Estremoz, a monument of the 16th century, has been converted into a bar and a restaurant, giving back to the town one of its most emblematic (symbolic) buildings. Due to its cosy atmosphere
We had a reco to eat here from the Pousada desk so we set out ahead of opening time to make a reservation. We got there about 1 hour ahead and the waiter promised us what seemed to be the best table if we returned by 8:00 PM. We got there about 7:50 to notice the owner seating other people at our promised table. He then made an excuse about the waiter being new and having no authority to hold any table. We were seated elsewhere and nobody showed up to bring menus, bread, water, take drink or other orders for at least 15 minutes even though there were few patrons. Frustrated, we got up and left. Owner called our hotel to also blame the poor waiter. Our only really discouraging experience in Portugal.Iâm sorry that the matter wasnât clarified when we talked back then. Nevertheless, allow me to tell what really happened, given that you shared what is more convenient to you instead. You dropped by at 19.00 (the waiter in question only starts his shift at that time) and booked a table in spite of the fact that the restaurant only opens at 19.30, as advertised outside. Itâs also advertised in 3 languages on a stand in front of the door that from 15.30 to 19.30, reservations are kindly taken note of at the bar, where the staff is obviously in full possession of the details needed to tend to any table request. The waiter you talked to, and who I respect immensely, had only been working with us for a couple of days. He took the verbal reservation but by accident he didnât note it down in our booking book nor didnât set the âreservedâ table sign on the tabletop, as it is done in any restaurant. The other members of the staff and I were not aware of that reservation. Given this, I sat two other clients there who had arrived meanwhile, since the sign wasnât there. Actually, some minutes afterwards, they politely asked to change to another table when they heard your comments and noticed your behaviour, becoming aware of what had taken place and in order to avoid any further misunderstanding. If you had waited for a couple more minutes, you could have had the table in question. As you can see, nothing happened as you say. It was all due to a little misunderstanding that we are sorry for by one of the members of the staff that, as I mentioned before, we respect immensely. When I spoke with you, it wasnât meant to blame anyone, as anyone who knows me knows I donât do, but to explain the situation to you instead. The waiter was equally worried and tried to talk to you as well. The waiter gave you the menus and you didnât order any drinks at that moment, something he confirmed me himself. Regarding the fact that the bread and other amuse-bouche that we always present werenât served immediately is due to the fact that it only happens after the food has been ordered, which hadnât taken place yet. About the waiting time, we only take the clientsâ order after they close the menu - we donât want to rush or interrupt them. I was paying attention to the table (as well as the waiter in charge of it) in light of the misunderstanding with the reservation. It seems elementary and common sense.I regret that you understood my telephone call to the Pousada as blaming the waiter â something that, as I said, is not something we do. In fact, it was an act of courtesy on our part. I regret now having made that choice.

Restaurant, Wine Bar, tapas. Coffee, chocolats and cakes. Fine food grocery.
My wife and I stopped in for lunch today after a friend recommended Gadanha. After a brief 30-40 minute wait, during which we sipped a very decent bottle of white wine, we were seated at a nice table for two. We ordered two starters and one main, splitting all three. First was a foie gras with a green apple reduction and dehydrated raspberry âcrumbsâ. After my first bite, I knew I was in for a treat today. The second starter was a goat cheese plate served in a hot cast iron skillet (which made the cheese melt) and with pears and a crispy wafer. Incredible. For our main, we split a porco preto (pork shoulder cut) that was perfection on a plate. Coupled with an apple sauce and a puree of sweet and russet potatoes with carrot tossed in. Very attentive service, food to die for and a charming, low key ambience. Not sure why some complain here of the prices; we ate and drank all of the above, and took two desserts to eat back at our hotel tonight and the bill, with 10% tip, was â¬110. Considering the culinary level, I found that to be a bargain. Keep up the good work, Gadanha. Vocês said demais!!!

So he did!Next two desertsNext tea and coffeeAll this for 63 euro! Great service of a 'silver service' standard but without being pretentious I would say book in advance we are on a Sunday at 3pm, last tableThey close on a Tuesday

Having read the reviews for this popular restaurant we got there at 1215hrs on Saturday and got the last table available. The service is very good with very friendly waiters one of whom speaks a little English. The menu is extensive [with some Englush interpretations] with a very good selection of mains and even desserts. We ordered a "1/2 dose" and found this was a very generous portion for one. There is a wide selection of typical rural Portuguese food on the menu including the ever-popular bacalhau [salt cod] and various stews, the black pork is very good. As with most Portuguese food the presentation is non-existant, there is no finesse and you get chips and rice on the same plate as accompaniments to meat, it is because of this that I have not given 5 stars. However this is a great restaurant, which I will go to again because of the varied menu, the pleasant staff and even the complimentary liquors with coffee.
