Things to do in Moura
After a day of touring, we did not want to wait until 7pm for the restaurants in Moura to open. We wandered into this pizza restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. Our large Hawaiian pizza was smothered in pineapples and delicious. The other couple shared a pepperoni which was equally good. The salads were good. The jars of red wine were inexpensive and good. By the time we left, the place was full, mostly locals I think. Two large pizzas, salad, three pitchers of wine-about 32 Euros. You can't go wrong.
Retiro do Ernesto is a small restaurant with traditional Alentejo cuisine. Here you can find a quiet place where you can enjoy the pleasure of food
We absolutely loved the dinner. The owner was very hostable and we had traditional food from the region and it was delicious. We would definetely recommend this place !

Tipical old Alentejo architecture in a old wine celar and nice courtyard. If you are lucky, you can taste Carving wine, rare in Europe. If you are not lucky, you may taste one of de many good wines of Piteira or Cooperativa da Granja Amareleja. The food is "around" Bacalhau, (Codfish) and Alentejo meat. Meat hunting and shelfish is at your disposal.Local wild Asparagus and Mushrooms are a "must".

Visiting "O Encalho" is entering the real world of Alentejo food. Here you can taste the "Arroz de Cabidela" in it's version traditional from Alentejo and the traditional pork meat (Porto Preto) from the black pigs that are only found in Alentejo. The perfect side is Migas and/or Migas de Espargos. Migas is made with bread, garlic, olive oil and water. It's also very nice to see them cooking it! If you want to see it, ask! The "Migas de Espargos" have an extra asparagus which makes them particularly delicious! Deserts are ever so sweet and delicious that they are hard to resist. You will also find cheeses and various types of deli that are worth trying. Oh! And don't forget the wine! Divine!

Typical restaurant in Moura, Baixo Alentejo.
Restaurant was recommended by our hotel as the best place for local cuisine. The staff speak very little English but we negotiated the most wonderful meal. Local pork dishes super cold beer and a beautiful wine. Fresh orange and the best espresso for dessert. The staff are just the most gracious hosts...lots to like

A great little place. We were lucky to find 2 seats inside. Itâs definitely a hang-out for the locals. The decoration is about bullfights and there was actually one on TV whilst we were eating. The owner seems to be running the business all by himself. He doesnât speak much English but with a few words of Spanish and Google translator we got what we wanted. We had a bottle of local wine (7 Euro), cured ham with bread, a thin beef steak with chips and garlic shrimps. The shrimps and the ham were delicious. All in all it was an interesting experience and we regretted that we couldnât interact more with other patrons or the owner.
