There is no shortage of excellent restaurants in Alentejo. Good food has been a tradition here. However there is still an outstanding place not to be missed there. We have admired Afonso for years but recent visit confirms its superb preparation of game. The "Esopada de lebre" , a carefully prepared dish of a wild hare has an aroma you shall remember all winter long. Other perfect dishes are made of squabs, partridges and goats. The partridge is so memorable that you have to promise yourself not to eat more than you your waistline can tolerate. For desserts try an apple or quince in porto wine. By the way: they also serve white port wine the color of gold and tasting well to supplement your dinner/

It was a business lunch, without reservation, i think you'll need one during the weekend. I've been to this restaurant a few times and now i think it's time to give it a review following the excellent meal we've had. First of all, we had a waiting period of about 20 minutes for a table, it was a week day, lunch time. After that, the service was very carefull and the waiters (owner and wife i think) are always on the lookout for the customer needs. The food was amazing, very well cooked and with incredible flavour. It's always like this, i've never had a meal at this restaurant, that i could say it was average or below. The food is typical, with a good selection of fish. I always recommend the typical Alentejo food like "Pézinhos de Coentrada" or the "lombinho de Porco Grelhado". I think the prices are affordable, not too expensive given that the size of the portions is well enough for and adult, sometimes for two. Good decoration, great atmosphere with the locals, awesome wine selection, seriously! And great desserts. I'm only sad because it is located a bit far from my hometown, or else i would go there more often for lunch.
This restaurant is located in the newly renovated square opposite nd between the two markets. It offers a mix of standard european food with algarvean seafood speciality dishes.Prices are reasonably competitive and you can eat outside.

just tried the meat dishesgood but nothing exceptinal, price are high for this type of restaurantstaff is nice are smilingdecoration is... old.i guess their location on the main road helps a lot to get tourists in
tradicional cakes portugueses, and Menus with ( pizzas, hamburgeres )

So this is a village restaurant, not fancy and not a 5 star hotel.Although it is not that, it is a village secret. You have to go in and cross through the village café/bar, and here you are a family and small oriented restaurant. The service takes a bit more than usual, but the food is wonderfull. You get to meet the cook, you get to choose the food which varies daily and you get to complaint or congratulate the chef Alves directly. I absolutely love Alentejo food and it is definitely well cooked in this restaurant and served in good portions. My wife loved the touch of fruit with the meat and loved the sweet onion salad. If you can detour or pass to have a meal here, do try, bring your pacience and enjoy the food. Worth It.

After waiting for 2h we gave up waiting. The wifi was not working and the waiters could not manage the expectations about the waiting time. The restaurant was completly over capacity aiming to make the month regardless the quality of service. I wish I could give less than one star.

The food is very traditional. Using local ingredients and the freshest produce, you couldn't expect any less. The quality of the meat is outstanding. You cannot get this grade of meat anywhere else. The region is known for hearty dishes, and this restaurant does it justice. The desserts is a must and there's always room for a bit of something sweet. Make sure you ask for recommendations on wine, there's such a great variety that you cannot miss out on a perfect marriage between wine and food. A must stop!

In the middle of Montargil's village, you'll find this restaurant and what you'll get it's the most awesome food and service that you can find in Portugal! Awesome food, terrific service and the desserts... oh the desserts... You'll ask for more and more!! (All homemade by the way...)
