We were staying at Sao Lourenço do Barrocal & book dinner . The estate is beautiful with gorgeous buildings so having dinner here is a treat in itself. The restaurant is known for highlighting and using fresh local produce from their garden & livestock. We ordered two entree’s to start & both were good especially the beef carpaccio. However, we found the mains let this restaurant down as the oxtail stew was very rich & my hubby complained his veal was very ordinary. The decor is fabulous with definite farmhouse ambience . The bar is open late for those who want a after dinner drink. If in this region I highly recommend staying or at least having dinner. Casual attire is suitable.

Enjoyed a comfortable group luncheon at this family-run restaurant en route to Évora. We started with traditional Portuguese Kale soup which was unexpectedly delicious, accompanied by fresh bread. A roast lamb entrée followed which was also very good. Monsaraz is somewhat out of the way, but if you go, Casa do Forno is a worthy stop. Thumbs up!

This was rated #4 for restaurants but worth a visit. We had lunch overlooking the valley below. Beautiful! The food was also good with codfish casserole and egg tortilla. We chose two wines, the Monsaraz réserva (good) and a white(?) also fine. It’s really the location with interesting food and drink. The profiteroles were excellent too!

Excellent traditional Portuguese food inside a medieval walled city. Lovely food and the owner is a very charming lady called Isabel. Fantastic view as it looks out onto the largest man made lake in Europe. Definitely worth a visit!

This is a wonderful restaurant with delicious home cooked food. We had the assada borrego (beef stew) with potatoes. It was perfect. The appetizers are fine too. The view from the patio is astounding. The service is excellent. The owners cook and serve. If you come in with fewer than five guests, there is a small set menu to choose from. Other dishes are available to larger groups.
