I went to the historic Roadhouse at Gakona, but they weren't actually serving food. They recommended Ernesto's. And while they were a bit busy, and a bit slow, the food was very good, and they had a variety of interesting choices available (including pizza).

We stopped on a chilly rainy day traveling from Valdez to Anchorage. The bean soup was the perfect solution for warming up and it was absolutely delicious. I was not too sure the serving would be filling without something to accompany it. This was not an issue because it was so hearty. Every person in our party was pleased with the choices they had made. But, then came dessert! Oh my goodness, the servings were more than generous, and everyone left quite happy. Unfortunately, I skipped dessert because I was full! That means a return trip must be scheduled. The interior is entertaining . If your dinner company is boring, just read all of the signs decorating the walls.
We're from California and picky about Mexican food. This was authentic and great. Highly recommend. Wasn't sure as next to a gas station and visitor center, with the food truck attached for the cook to go in and out. Decor done well for a small place. Also did hamburgers for those not fond of Mexican food.

Glennallen is a cross roads town that has several gas stations and food trucks for quick snacks. Caribou/Fireweed has everyday American diner food served at tables and a counter. They have a nice line of dessert pies, too. You can get a snack or a full meal. On a recent trip to Alaska I ate there three times. Their Wi-Fi was good, too. Prices are higher than in the lower 48 but typical for Alaska.
