This Captain D's has the typical food that was served hot and fresh. The distinguishing factor in this restaurant was that the service was great. All of the employees were very friendly.
Ozark has a lot to offer in history. The Claybank Church dating to the 1800 and the Holman Mansion Greek Revival Mansion built in 1912, the finest home in Alabama. Can be rented for special occasions. The Army Aviation Museum is five miles away, worth two to three hours learning about Army Aviation. A good stop on your journeys.

After four-hour drive, mostly in Alabama, mostly not interstate roads, we paused for lunch @ an Appleby's in Ozark, AL, Hwy 231 S. not crowded on Sunday. Service was adequate. I ordered a chicken wrap with side of broccoli, overcooked to my taste buds. Wife Gretchen had tomato bisque soup which was luke warm. Her artichoke dip was hotter than the soup. We got about what we expected from this national chain. It is not easy to find a good place when on the road. Other diners were good olâ boys in baseball caps. There was some serious obesity in the crowd. Our lunch bill was $31.34 before tip. I would prefer a local cafe over Applebyâs, not easy to find, and not guaranteed either.
This subway does better in many ways. As the menu is identical, it is the personnel that makes the difference. One young lady (Katie) was wonderful in putting my sandwich together, very efficient and knew what she was doing. Other personnel seemed to be doing a lot of standing around. Have been there many times and most of the time, only one or two people are actually working. For a couple of employees, I don't go in if I see them there as they are so slow and can't remember anything. Had to tell one girl 3 times I wanted sandwich toasted. And it wasn't busy!!!

We are located in the back of El Palacio Plaza next to the Baymont Inn. Look for the covered and screened outside patio!
We say at the bar and had chicken wings for our meal. They were very good! A little disappointed that they didn't have bud light on tap, but the bottled beer was nice and cold. There was live entertainment, a one-man band. I can't remember his name, but he was very friendly to us. He asked if we were visiting and we had a good conversation about baseball.

This darling little place was a find for early morning breakfast. A very sweet waitress brought hot coffee and set the friendly mood. We shared the biscuits and gravy (my one session) and they were homemade sweet biscuits with home cooked sausage gravy. They were delicious and for $4 a great value. When traveling we stay away from chains and this little place was a gem. I just wish we could go back for a burger and shake! It would be a 50âs experience!
