We will be the first to admit that oysters are not our thing. But when in Rome do as the Roman's do or when in Mobile go to Wintzell's Oyster House. This place had us at hello. It is well preserved with the long past owners words of wisdom or barstool poetry hanging and written on the walls. Great atmosphere and vibe to this Dauphin Street location. Our server was Rich who offered advice and name dropped all the famous people who have eaten there under his watch. Our service was friendly, full of information and fun. Nice combination and job well done Rich! For our food we ordered the Alabama's Award Winning Gumbo, Fried J.O. Platter (catfish, oysters, scallops and shrimp) and topped it off with their award winning bread pudding. The fried oysters were great by the way. The Gumbo and Bread Pudding best we have ever had. We shared and enjoyed a lot of great food. This would be a must stop if you are in Mobile. It is the place to go based off our limited study of the area. We are glad we experienced it and would highly recommend a visit.

I was staying overnight at the Hampton Inn next door; Went to The Royal Scam for dinner. One other customer in the place, First thought is WTH is wrong here?? Staff all standing at far end of bar with arms crossed looking at me like "WTH do you want?? LOL.. Finally one came over and I ordered a drink, There was a small sign sitting on the bar that read, 'I am in charge" with the name - Katherine.... at some point i guess Katherine appeared and was asked by who seemed to be the manager; Katie" to what she replied, "KAtherine"... I was thinking, damn, this may be a good show here after all.... LOL.... I ordered the 9oz filet mignot... Excellent..... other than some questionable typical restaurant issues, great food with CRAZY employees!!!Richard, Iâm really sorry you got a bad impression of our service, but so glad you enjoyed the food. If you have a chance please reach out. Weâd like to hear a little more about your experience. We donât have an employee named Katherine, so we are very curious. Thanks for taking your time to leave us a review, and I appreciate any further information your able to provide [email protected]

Have eaten here several times - love to sit in the courtyard out back when it's not too hot because it feels like you're in New Orleans. Have had several sandwiches, salads, soups, and pizza, and everything has been great. Service is super friendly, and check out the grocery store-type items on your way out. Don't be confused - bar on one side and more restaurant-style dining on the other side, but you can eat anywhere.

We serve up hearty portions of premium meats sliced in-house, hand-shredded cheeses and imported ingredients, scratch made sauces & dressings and fresh fruit & vegetables chopped in-house every day. All served with a generous dose of hospitality. Our Kitc
Newks is a great restaurant with terrific soups, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and desserts. This location is in a small strip mall near Costco and has a well-lit, clean, and welcoming interior. Staff members are personable and helpful. The menu is fairly extensive and I have enjoyed everything I have every tried. Some of the sandwiches have a honey mustard spread on the freshly baked crusty bread--it is wonderful! The creole-type sauce on some sandwiches is delicious and not spicy. The meats are flavorful and the veggies are always fresh. The pizzas are super--always fresh with plenty of toppings and a crispy crust. The salads are a mixture of spring greens, cucumbers, tomatoes and a selection of dressings. The soup menu changes daily with 5-6 choices each day. Every one of them is awesome!! Newks has a To Go section where you just walk in and select prepared food to go. In addition, there is a "Round Table" in the middle of the restaurant that has self-service bread sticks, roasted garlic cloves, shredded parmesan cheese, pickles, croutons, capers and more. Awesome!! Don't miss lunch or dinner at Newk's!! Try to save room for the multi-layer cakes, brownies, or Rice Krispie treats!!
