Red Lobster

I have eaten at many Red Lobsters. I go to this one about two times a year. Most Red Lobster locations have one thing in common and that is mediocre but high priced food. The Decatur location follows that standard. When I arrived a the reception table, it was abandoned. After a three or four minute wait the receptionist appeared and seated me. I read through the entire menu twice, put it down, and sat there waiting for someone to take my order. Servers were swirling all around glancing over my way but still nothing. Finally, just as I was getting ready to leave one of the servers took notice and come over to my table to ask if anyone had taken my order. I told her no so she took my drink order and said she would get the server responsible for my section. It turns out the server waiting on my section was new and had not fully understand which tables fell under her 'jurisdiction'. She apologized and took my order. I felt sorry for her. After I placed the order my drink arrived quickly as did the salad. The main dish was about ten seconds behind the delivery of the salad. Once again an apology. I looked at the main dish and saw that the coconut shrimp on the plate appeared to be bite size shrimp, not the large coconut shrimp that I ordered. When I pointed out the error the waitress assured me I must be mistaken. I asked for a menu and showed her what I ordered and the shrimp on the plate were not that. She disappeared to consult with management, apologized, and eventually came back to the table with the correct dish. The salad was large and the lettuce was crisp. No complaints there. The shrimp was freshly prepared frozen shrimp. Nothing to rave about. Overall service was poor. I put that on management because they obviously did not do a good job of training the waitress. On the plus side for the waitress she was courteous, well groomed, and her clothing was clean and pressed. I will not be going back to this restaurant.

Loved, loved, loved this place! Delicious steamed shrimp, Conecuh sausage, corn on the cob & new potatoes. Served with plenty of melted butter and cocktail sauce with just the right amount of horseradish. Got some smoked tuna dip to go. Excellent service and clean restaurant. Nothing fancy - maybe that's why they can keep the prices of fresh seafood so reasonable. I'm from the Gulf Coast and I've never had fresh seafood this good this far away from the Gulf. Really impressive variety of seafood. There are a few tables inside and one outside, but this would also be great for carryout as everything came in a big aluminum disposable pan. The owner was very friendly and helpful and you can even call ahead. We will definitely be back, most likely every time we are in town. It seems like there was a steady stream of local carry out customers. This is Decatur's hidden gem!!! Highly recommend!
