The French are known as the world’s most romantic people, so it makes sense that Akaroa—site of New Zealand’s first French settlement—is an ideal spot to set the scene for love. Hold hands with your paramour and stroll along the provincial harbor, where dolphins, penguins, and seals bob and chatter in the sparkling ice-blue water. First-class accommodations, quaint French bakeries and succulent restaurants are the perfect ingredients for a romantic getaway.

We had read reviews about this place on Tripadvisor and were not surprised to find it jam packed with diners. We had to wait for a free table and were glad we did. We sat outside and were happy to do so as it was such a nice day. Both of us opted for Blue Cod and it came with all the trimmings: chips, lemon, salad (with a tasty honey mustard dressing) all served up by a very pleasant Chilean waitress. Great food in terrific picturesque location.

Semi-fine dining dinner atmosphere and casual lunch experience, fine wine selection, beautiful sunset harbour views from the Terrace. The Trading Rooms is a timeless historic venue, perfect for your special occasion.
A brilliant location with nice seats shaded by olive trees overlooking the beautiful harbour. Would be a great location but for the terrible service that takes forever and is not at all welcoming.

Overlooking Dailey's wharf and the Akaroa Harbour, Ma maison is one of Akaroa's hidden gems. The view speaks for itself! Set away from the hustle and bustle, our Restaurant offers a very private dining experience, one to be enjoyed and savoured.
We enjoyed our day walkabout from Celebrity SOLSTICE. Nice town, and for that shore break from our cruise ship, it is always interesting to see the dining options for lunch.
This eatery came highly recommended, so we stopped in and put our name in for a noon lunch. Once back, service was instantly disorganized and trying to keep up with the scant few diners in the al fresco portion. Communication among the staff was poor. One table had smokers. One came over to the "smoking section" which was right next to our table--and puffed away like a chimney.
Proud to have walked out.

Had a great lunch recently of Calamari and Mussels. The mussels were sublime and the clamari extremely good. Good service and a great view of the bay. We had stopped at a couple of other places and sat and waited and no service so were very happy with this choice.

Good range of Thai food. The restaurant has a nice location, it faces the Akaroa water front. Prompt and courteous service. The food was in large portions and quite filling.

After a long walk around town on a hottish sort of day, we stopped here for a drink and relax. Sitting on bar stools looking out to the harbour was fantastic and the drinks were great to cool us down for a reasonable price. Seemed to be very popular with people of all ages with space a little limited on a day when the cruise ships are in. Worth a look when you are in Akaroa for a couple of days.

Called in on the way to Akaroa, stunning views, good coffee and foccacia, staff v friendly but v v busy with 2 bus parties in and the building itself needs smartening up and money spending on the facilities.
My advice would be eat in Little River then just stop to look at the view.

We loved this tiny cafe serving French inspired breakfasts and excellent coffee. The coffee was so good we each had a second cup. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful.
There was an interesting selection of cabinet food to take out, and the salmon flan was particularly tasty.
We enjoyed our breakfast so much we returned the following morning for a repeat!
