The galette we had was the best we have tasted, filled with generous portions of grilled courgette, peppers, cheese, egg and fresh greens on the side. We also had a flambé Crepe, with amaretto, pistachio ice cream, nuts and chocolate and a cider. We enjoyed seeing the chef at work creating her delicious masterpieces with love. A definite must to enjoy your brunch after a stroll at the market nearby. You cannot miss its bright pink exterior outside. We have recommended this to our friends and we will come back for more if we return to Aix.

I visited Toinou with my wife and 2 children for dinner. Our children had the kids platter which was fish (kabeljau) and chips with salad followed by ice cream of their choice. Fish was cooked on the spot and tasted brilliant. My wife and I had the Toinou platter for two which consisted out a variety of oysters lobster skampi prawns muscles and whelks... All I can say is absolutely awesome... Ok, all except the lobster and prawns was raw, but it came straight from sea on to your plate. Just amazing.. Service friendly and efficient and gave us good wine recommendations. Kids were happy and we were as well. Lovely ambience in a modern yet very relaxed setting. Definitely worth sitting on the terrace outside weather permitting. FYI. , what we discovered/found out when leaving, is that one can purchase the whole range of their seafood products including a selection of the wines, get it packed and have a pic nic in the garden below. Very cool for a summer day in the Provence. A must if you are in to seafood oysters and crustaceans..lovely

Yes, the view is beautiful. Yes, dining on the balcony on a summer night was fabulous. No, the food was not unforgetable. In fact, three days after, I can hardly remember what I had. No, the service was not up to a fine restaurant. It was cold and annoying. Yes, the price was much too high for what we got. A dissapiontement.

This small restaurant serves good starters like sardins in oil and mussels. The main dish I tasted was a very good beef tartare with pesto combined to a fantastic salad.Thank's a lot ! A bientôt.

I've been in l'Apéritif Français just to try to find a gift for my father (wine bottle) and I had a real lesson about "What is the French apéritif"... Thank you Pierre and Stéphane for this moment ! Really enjoyable !

The first time I visited Aix a fee years ago, I had lunch in one of the generic bistros that litter the town squares. The food was generic, unremarkable and overpriced. This time around, I wanted to surprise my mother for her birthday, so made sure to do some research before hand. Gambetta had great reviews, so I decided to book and I'm glad I did. While the restaurant isn't located in a scenic town square, the food and the service are top notch. Gambetta is owned and run by a lovely couple, with the husband in the kitchen and the wife at front of house. Each dish was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. The 3 dish menu was excellent value and we all happily ate all our courses. The hostess was very friendly and insisted on giving my mother free coffee and ice cream when she found out it was her birthday. We all had an excellent experience and will definitely be returning on our next trip to Aix.

We ate here recently and as it was our first night in the area and it was late we took the recommendation from our accommodation to eat here.Good stuff..nice staff, nice breads..actually really nice bread..nice food and nice wineBad stuff.... all of the above nice stuff was way overpriced.. our bill was 120⬠for what I can safely say would have cost me â¬80 at home in a similar standard restaurant..indeed we ate 2 other nights in Aix en Provence in restaurants of similar standard and the bills on both occasions were less then â¬70. The food was good enough for a 4 star rating and although I want to rate it at 3 stars I feel it would be unfair to the business to do that as the only complaint I have was over its pricing so I am giving it 4 with a caveat....its not cheap

Staying in Le Tholonet, didn't feel like going all the way into Aix, read the reviews and decided to try it. What a lovely night, the staff appear delighted with everyone that arrives. We were quickly given the run down on the menu. We had the veal scallopini and a pizza, both were very good. A really pleasant inexpensive night out!

Just off the motorway, but you'd never know it, quiet country style establishment. They have a great choice of meat & really know how to cook it. They grill indoors on a huge wood burning griddle & it can get very hot - fortunately there's a very pleasant terrace so you can eat alfresco.

This was our third visit to this combination restaurant and butcher shop. The first time was a recommendation by the guy who runs the excellent wine shop in the same shopping complex - La Cave de Virgile. They specialize in beef, though pork and lamb are available both on the carte and in the butcher case. Don't expect super imaginative dishes with extravagant sauces. This place is all about the meat - French, Italian, Argentinian, American. We've tried the lamb and the pork, but always go back to the beef. This is a great place to have steak tartare, and it is excellent. The meat is well sourced and prepared to order. Excellent dauphinoise potatoes, very good 'frites' and a well dressed salad. The wine list is correctly priced with local wines - which is a good thing, considering that Chateau Simone and Chateau Cremade are just around the corner. The delicious desserts are made 'in house'. Look out for the 'Dessert du jour', which when we were there was a delicious looking Tarte Tatin. This is a 'locals' restaurant and they would seem to get very few Anglophone customers. That being said, the service is professional, prompt, and friendly. We will be back.
