Coyhaique (Spanish pronunciation: [koˈʝai̯.ke]), also spelled Coihaique in Patagonia, is the capital city of both the Coyhaique Province and the Aysén Region of Chile. Founded by settlers in 1929, it is a young city. Until the twentieth century, Chile showed little interest in exploiting the remote Aisén region. The Carretera Austral road opened in the 1980s.
Things to do in Coyhaique
Restaurant Tierras y Mares del Sur serves Chilean, Spanish and International cuisine. The restaurant is located just out of Coyhaique atop a high mountain plateau from where you can enjoy fantastic views over the mountains and river valleys.
El lugar destaca por tener buena ubicación y una buena carta de productos del mar, pero como sucede normalmente en estos locales, el stock no siempre existe y queda la expectativa. De todas maneras el mar es su especialidad y mayor virtud.
I can´t recommend this place highly enough! We went to this restaurant twice while we were in Coyhaique. I had their vegetarian sandwich twice, it was so delicious, and my parents got salads which were amazing as well. Once you travel here you'll realize how rare it is to find healthy, flavorful food! We had some rose champagne and great beer (Dolbek, a local brewery). The manager (an incredibly engaging Argentinian woman named Mercedes) will probably visit and help you plan the remainder of your trip. The downside is that you have to take a cab to get there, and it's fairly new so you'll want to bring a map for the driver -but it's not very far, just 3.000 fare each way.

Family business started as late night Delis, then extend its hours a day, and finally become a restaurant that caters almost 24 hours and which can provide both fast food, a wide and delicious menu.
Cheap and Cheerful. Huge sandwiches, pretty good value for Coyhaique (around 4000 pesos / $8 USD), and made pretty fast. A really good option if you don't have the time or inclination to go to a restaurant and you just want a good, quick feed.

This restaurant is quite different from all others we went to in Northern Patagonia. It had an extensive (and non-standard) collection of wine, a far more sophisticated menu than all other places we had been to, nice setting, good service, etc. In fact, all the hallmarks of an expensive restaurant, except that it wasn't expensive, prices were quite in line with all the other places. I forgot what we had for mains, there was at least one unusual one, but I just can't think of it any more. For entrees (that's "appetisers" for the US folks) I had a carpaccio of salmon and congrio (conger eel). The raw fish had been wrapped into thick roles and then very thinly sliced, creating spirals of fish of alternating colours, very nicely presented, and very good. I probably wouldn't have dared to eat raw fish in any other restaurant around. My wife's entree was prawns wrapped in smoked salmon, with a broth poured over at the table, also excellent.

Casona Restaurant, traditional cuisine from the Aysén region with more than 15 years of experience rescuing the flavor and the best service with meat, fish and seafood.
We ate here twice during our stay in town. First night was a 'lucky find' and we just squeezed in early; the second night we made sure we booked.Menu is varied, service is great (although a bit stretched at peak times .. around 10pm). Prices are very reasonable.Come here and you shouldn't be disappointed.

Basilic Bistrot is a vegetarian restaurant with Chilean and French influences. We pride ourselves on being a farm-to-table restaurant, using only fresh, local, seasonal and organic products whenever possible. Run by its owners, family oriented, fluently w
Such a fantastic place!!! Incredible veggie food that is beautifully presented. We met Phillipe the owner who is just the nicest guy and super enthusiastic about creating great food for his guests. For anyone eating here, make sure you save space for dessert too. I had the cheesecake and never wanted it to end. Such a shame we only discovered this place on our last day in Coyhaique or we would have been back.

I spent 5 nights in Hotel Dreams and ended up eating all of my meals here. The food and service were very good, and the english speaking manager was very helpful to this non spanish speaking gringo. The lunch sandwiches were very good. Large portions! The best dinner I had here was the salmon fillet with veggies. And it was medium rare just like I asked for, and not over cooked like most places in the US.
