Ahoskie /əˈhɒski/ ( listen) is a town in Hertford County, North Carolina. The population was 5,039 at the 2010 census. Ahoskie is located in North Carolina's Inner Banks region. Its nickname is "The Only One" because no other town in the world is known by the same name. The origin of the word Ahoskie, which was originally spelled "Ahotsky," came from the Wyanoke Indians who entered the Hertford County area at the beginning of European settlement.

Good food at a very fair price! The 22oz Dos Equis are great too. We stop here for lunch, after church at least monthly and the kids ask to come here for their birthdays.

When I was in looking at the window a local woman said it was the best place to eat in Ahoskie - she said everything was good. I got a standard Chicken and Broccoli stir-fry with fried rice. It was solidly good, standard Chinese food and for $3.99 it couldn't be beat.

We were passing through town when we found ourselves hungry and unfamiliar with local dining options. A retail clerk suggested we try CBC. This little restaurant is housed in an unassuming older building along a main drag. Don't be fooled by the name and the humble dining room: There's a lot more here than just BBQ.
What we liked:
1. We were welcomed by friendly people; our waitress checked on us regularly; everyone, even people at the buffet, were just plain nice.
2. Prices are very reasonable.
3. The buffet is where it's at: fried fish of all kinds, steamed shellfish and other seafood preparations--some available for a little extra and upon request--macaroni and cheese, fried frog legs, potatoes and rice, southern vegetables, fabulous cornbread, a long salad bar, a generous dessert bar, fried chicken, other items I've forgotten, all the usual condiments, and so much more. This is a very nice buffet for such a small restaurant.
4. Clean restrooms. Oddly enough, though I can't speak for the men's room, the ladies' room has two toilets with just a partial partition between them, so two can relieve themselves at once almost in full view of the other--no doors on either "stall." I asked about this and the employee said that the restroom used to be accessed from an exterior door (which is still there in the ladies' room) though that never really explained the two-seater lack of privacy. Regardless, the entry door and the exit door to the ladies' room both lock. So not to worry...
5. There's a breakfast buffet too, and you can have your eggs done to order.
6. If buffet is not your thing, you can order BBQ plates and fish and chicken and several other items from the regular menu. Even chitterlings. See photo.
7. Senior discounts.
8. Ideal for large groups and I'm sure kids would love the buffet.
What we didn't like:
1. The lack of privacy between restroom stalls.
2. Desserts are pretty much what you expect to see on a buffet table.
Would we return? Absolutely! The food was good and the hospitality was really lovely. I give this eatery 5 stars not because it's fine dining--it's not. I give it 5 stars because it's all you expect and more of a small, family-run, home style dining experience.

We go here regularly for ice cream. The ice cream is good and well priced. (The Dippndots, is expensive.) The food is good and on Thursdays they have Chicken Pastry, which is very good.

This is a nice banquet hall that has homey quaint atmosphere. The wait staff is friendly, attentive and responsive. The food was well-seasoned & well prepared. Guest parking is nearby. The banquet space could be easily transformed to fit any event.

It would be hard for Bojangles to mess up biscuits, eggs and bacon. Hadn't had a biscuit in forever so I savored this tasty light and fluffy biscuit. Coffee was OK not great.

The waitstaff is attentive without being annoying and the food is very good for a small town restaurant. My only complaint is that most of the dishes have very few vegetables and the rice is sometimes dried out. The orange beef, shrimp eggrolls, and hot and sour soup are excellent. The Singapore Mei Fun is decent, but I have had better. Wait time for tables and service is usually very short. Food is prepared fresh and you can look into the kitchen while they are preparing it. The inside of the restaurant is well-lit, clean, and inviting.

What is there to say? This is better than some Burger Kings, but nothing special or different about it.

On Good Friday we decided to take a day trip from Delaware to North Carolina and wanted a late lunch. We stopped by the Golden Skillet and wasn't disappointed. There fried sea food platter was delicious and the side of greens was tender and good.
