We spent 12 nights in Kythira and tried restaurants all over the island. We ate here 4 times and had fish each time. This is the best restaurant for fish on the island. The refrigerator is well stocked with a large variety, different every day. Ask to see the fish. Choose what you like, ask how they prepare it and how much it will cost. The setting is isolated, but not especially pretty, in front of a large, dusty gravel parking lot. The service was attentive, except on a Sunday when they were over-extended. I would give this place 5 stars if it were not for the house wine. Maybe this is something special that Greeks like, but I thought it was terrible, both the white and the rose. They told me that it was not retsina, but it tasted resinous to me. They do have some bottles of wine and beer on tap. It’s a shame because excellent wine is produced right there on the island.

The Café-Restaurant “Platanos” (plane tree ) is a Greek traditional restaurant situated in the central square of the village Mylopotamos in Kythera in a very nice location.
The restaurant is open in the summer having the tables under the shadow of two giant platanos trees, next to a small river basin(that is dry because of the large droughts this year), but the coffee-shop is open all the year round .
The restaurant has a wide variety of available dishes, the prices are reasonable and the service very good but not always very quick.
Everything which we have eaten (e.g. rabbit in tomato sauce with fried potatos, lamb in baking paper with baked potatos, village salad with local olives) was very tasty and served in large portions.
Sometimes there is a small problem in summer if some bees and hives are flying around (in that case you have to ask for a small tin of smoked coffee, so that they go away).
We were satisfied from the Café-Restaurant “Platanos” and we would like to suggest it.
We will visit it again if an opportunity arises.

Great traditional Greek food, grilled calamari, greek salad, mousaka were all tasty and good value. Many other creations that I have never heard of but were all good. We ate and drank here several times during our stay with occasional swim in the beautiful clear ocean. Service was great.

If you're in Kythira don't miss at least one dinner at Michalis... but please be there before sunset ... see it from Michalis while your first plates arrive on the table !!! Fantastic location, very good Greek kitchen, excellent tastes & quality.

I give this 3 stars, but I am a tough grader. We enjoy going here for drinks, light snacks or ice cream. We have visited here about 5X and have never had a problem. I give this review mostly because of the limited menu, as opposed to other nearby places.
Last night, I tried the special Kythirian Ice Cream. It has honey and nuts and the consistency more of yoghurt than traditional ice cream. I'm sure it is very rich, which means I should not eat it everyday. However, I just might make an exception in this case.

A love for the surrounding land and sea is the underlying source of inspiration for our dishes at Familia. We wish to highlight the relationship between the raw nature, produce and cultural history.
We managed to eat at the restaurant just before it’s seasonal closure. The menu is innovative and the food delicious. The chef Is obviously very skilled at creating dishes with balance and flavour Portions are plentiful. The slow roast pork was the star dish. It was superior to the slow cooked version I tried at Kosima in Athens.
Fun and knowledgeable staff.
We were a party of six foodies, difficult to impress but we left a very happy and contented bunch.

The only place by the beach (agia pelagia) that serves excellent fresh fish, octopus and calamari, all others are really lower in quality (and, sadly, there are plenty of them). We had a Greek salad and fresh red snappers and octopus and calamari filled with peppers and everything was beyond expectations, excellent in quality! Paid 90€ for all these and they offered water melon for desert. Great service as well.

We went there for a quick snack last evening. It is the only simple souvlaki place we have found on the beach in Agia Pelagia. We wanted to go the day before, but they do not open till 7:30 PM.
We thoroughly enjoyed our souvlaki pita and think we will go back 2-3 more times during our visit.
The price was very good for a waterfront location, with no premium over a souvlaki far from the sea.

We had a great day at Zathea cafe and the coffee was better than the rest of the places around Agia Pelagia, however, terribly expensive as you can see at the receipt (3.5€) for a freddo espresso. I am afraid they are charging by the time you spend on their Seating area by the beach, so do ask for the price before ordering as it can be really expensive.
Ice cream selection and waffles are of good quality and the people in charge are kind enough.
