Afula (Hebrew: עֲפוּלָה, Arabic: العفولة) is a city in the Northern District of Israel, often known as the "Capital of the Valley" due to its strategic location in the Jezreel Valley. In 2016 the city had a population of 47,014.

We were here for breakfast (usually it is not open for breakfast but it was part of a package). The food was fresh and very good. Interesting salads, shakshuka, herb omlette, cheeses, focaccia. Great location with great view. Don't think twice.

Great bakery & cafe, clean, great service
The question posed to my breakfast companion (once a fortnight) is whether a good breakfast, however good, is worth an hour and a quarter ride in each direction (Afula is not near the center of the country).
We were there for breakfast, although as the hours pass, they serve lunch and dinner. Maklot Vanille is a restaurant, cafe, bakery, and patisserie all wrapped into one. We ordered more or less standard Israeli breakfasts at more or less standard Israeli breakfast prices. What put Maklot Vanille way above standard was the heaping basket of amazingly tasty breads and rolls that were part and parcel of the breakfast.. Best I 've had in a long time. Additionally the mixed vegetable salad, which is part of the meal, was made of the freshest, tastiest vegetables I have eaten in an Israeli restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. All in all, a very satisfying breakfast which was also somehow more filling than I am used to. The coffee was good.
Service was attentive but not cloying. To the restaurant's credit, there is a great deal of room between tables, and so you are not having to move your chair to let some other dude into or out of his, nor are you having to overhear the boring (or not) conversation of your neighbors. All positives. Finally, across the street we found free parking.
As to the question which opened this review, in light of the many good breakfasts that can be had in Israel, I cannot recommend that the tourist of less than 3 weeks make a special 1.25 hour trip in either direction just to have a meal here. However, if it happens to be on the way between here and there, it wouldn't be outlandish if a small effort was made to stop in for a meal or a snack. For the resident of Israel, I recommend the trip.

Falafel Golani is situated across from the police station in the sleepy town of Afula, Israel. About a two-minute walk from the central bus station, it attracts travellers and locals alike. Jews, Arabs, tourists - you name it, all flock to this Mecca of the fried chick pea.
Owner Dudu Peretz named the stop in honor of his brother who fell in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. He was a soldier in the tough-as-nails Golani infantry brigade (think of the Marines with an attitude and you're getting close) losing his life trying to recapture the Hermon Mountain Lookout position that had been overrun by Syrian commandoes at the outbreak of the war. Israel eventually took back the position at a heavy price in human life.
Don't expect anything fancy here. For 15 NIS (New Israeli Shekels - about $4), you get an artfully-filled pita with falafel balls, chips (that's french fries to you Yanks), and fresh salad. You then can add a plethora of salads, pickled vegies and hot sauces. Believe or not, falafel is great with sourkraut!
Personally, I would add tehina sauce, pickles, fried eggplant and then more tehina.

Very nicely decorated, very welcoming setting and staff. Menus were readily
available in many languages. Menu was very rich in choices. Our food came relatively quickly considering the place was busy. Our food was very tasty and portions were very generous. Bill was very reasonable. Wifi was good. Parking was easy across the street or in a parking lot half a block away.
I would highly recommend it for lunch or dinner.

Ice cream, sorbet and so many toppings! Oh my! The staff is friendly & quite generous with the ice cream scoop! They are happy to let you sample to help you decide what to order (everything is delicious so it's a tough decision!) Leggenda is one of the few places in town open during Shabbat.

Several pleasant restaurants in Israel are attached to gas stations, and Al Othmani restaurant (19 Koresh street, Afula 04-6402483) is one of them. It specializes in Arab food, and delivers as promised. Whenever you visit an ethnic restaurant, and you see members of the same ethnic group crowding inside, you have a hint that the food must be good. Indeed, when we arrived for lunch the restaurant was filled with Arab families, and the food was delicious. They have a daily special for 70 shekels (about $18), which is enough for two people. It consist of seven different salads as appetizers, a main dish (we had great kebab – 5 grilled meatballs on skewers), and warm pita bread. Highly recommended.
