Vlad the Impaler stated his claim to Bucharest in 1459. His citadel on the Dambovita was the first of flotillas of palaces, many of which still stand. Four subway lines and a modern bus network transport visitors and commuters. Nicknamed "Little Paris", Bucharest's elegant early 20th-century architecture shows French influences. Don't miss the Village Museum, Romanian Athenaeum and the Peasant Museum. You can't miss the Palace of Parliament, the second-largest building in the world (after the Pentagon).

Located in the Old Town (but luckily away from the crowded streets), Abel's has recently opened and offers a wide selection of Romanian, Argentinian,Spanish, New Zealand and South-African wines and the list is growing. It's quite small and cozy and decorated with a familiar touch, which makes it the perfect setting for meaningful conversations around such "magic potions".
Visited Abels for a wine tasting and got a great introduction to the country’s wine areas. Two whites, one fabulous Rose, and two powerful reds accompanied by good local knowledge. We then headed into town and came back for a nightcap. Thankyou. The place is not large but is is clearly a personal passion

Small, bohemian wine bar in the heart of Bucharest, right in the historical centre. Bruno Wine Bar & Bistro is located on Covaci 3. We serve over 130 carefully selected Romanian and foreign wines by the glass and a selection of local and foreign cheeses and charcuterie (cold-cuts).
Truly adored this place. So cosy inside, a nice selection of lounge music in the background and an extensive menu of local, Moldovan and international wines. But the best thing was the service. The one girl who was working around 4pm on 22nd of February - she was amazing. Not only was she so attentive but her knowledge and recommendations on local wines was absolutely superb. A true professional. Highly recommended.

In an old Police Station in the center of Bucharest, Manasia Bar is an intercultural hub with a fresh vibe and a quiet garden. The bar is opened every day and from time to time, the venue can host parties, screenings and Q&As.
I like the place: in a roundabout, in the old town (the Jewish part), but not the crowded, touristy old town. I like the garden and even the story: this place used to be a police station! :) Great for a quiet evening out with friends. Great if you're into cats, too.

Not sure why we are so lucky to get the owner to ourselves each time we visit. The place is literally two paces of the busy tourist mobbed old town; but so much better than any of the menu hawker places. They know their wine here and as they get to know you, they will pour you the perfect glass of wine. Looking forward each time we decide to go down to old town to see what glorious wine I will get poured next!

I discovered this place less than a month ago and I already visited it three times -- with plans to go back as often as possible. Grapes has an amazing selection of wines -- over 300 labels from all over the world, from Romania and Moldova to South Africa and the US. Most of them are available by the glass, by bottle or to-go. The biggest plus is the candid advice of the owner and sommelier. He's always there to tell you what are the best wines to try, what's new in the bar and what best matches your preferences. Do ask for his advice even though you know your way around wines. There's always a new up-and-coming winery to discover or a new fantastic wine from an established one to try (especially when it comes to Romanian wines). If you happen to be nearby during one of their tasting events, make sure to book your place in advance -- you won't regret the experience. Grapes is a welcome addition to the wine bar scene of Bucharest. IMHO, it's the only place where the passion for wine truly shines through everything.
