Our affable and attentive staff bring a contemporary edge to the traditional 18th century inn; nestled in an area of outstanding natural beauty beneath the Sussex Downs. At close proximity to the nearby attractions of Brighton, Eastbourne and Tunbridge Wells, the Blacksmiths Arms is perfectly placed as a base to explore all that the Sussex countryside has to offer. We offer spacious 4 star bed and breakfast accommodation, with each of the superior quality, comfortable bedrooms featuring an en suite bathroom; flat screen TV as well as tea and coffee making facilities. New refurbishment promises stylish decoration and uncompromised cleanliness. Upon renovation, the downstairs bar and restaurant area takes a new lease of life, with a host of new local beers, lagers and a delectable wine list. Our chef cooks traditional pub classics as well as a delicious Jamaican menu. Where possible, our supplies are sourced locally.
A pub with character, bar area clean lots of tables, bar maid was friendly with banter. We stayed for one night and I would not hesitate in returning the rooms were very clean, bed linen was amazing, toiletries provided, tea/coffee provided if you wanted more you just had to ask. Restaurant food was very good. Breakfast was cereals/yoghurt/toast/cooked breakfast which set us up for the day, orange juice and coffee were good. Car parking also available.. would definitely return.

Stayed in a new Premiere plus room which was superb. Great breakfast and plenty of choice. Could not be more central and very close to the railway station. The staff were exceptional in their genuine friendliness and willingness to help

YHA South Downs is a refurbished Sussex farmhouse and barn buildings in an enviable location right on the South Downs Way, just a short stroll along a country lane from Southease Railway station. Surrounded by the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park, the site stands in extensive grounds, ideal for exploring by experienced or budding naturalists – or just a place to relax and unwind.
I stayed for a night to walk nearby and kayak off the coast. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the room and facilities were good and clean. The location on the South Downs Way and near the River Ouse is great for local walks. The nearby road is busy but you can quickly get away from this and explore. I kayaked from Seaford Beach which is just a 10 minute drive and well worth a visit as is Cuckmere Haven/Birling Gap. I had a really enjoyable stay and short trip.

Traditional 19th-century pub and Inn, near Lewes and Hailsham. Home cooked food and range of cask beers. A22 gives access to Eastbourne. Near to Glyndebourne opera and the South Downs. Originally two blacksmith's cottages, it is first registered as an alehouse in 1881. You are assured of a warm welcome from Mark and Hayley at this friendly East Sussex pub.
We are staying locally for business and the Blacksmith Arms was 2 minutes down the road. It is a bit of a 'spit and sawdust' pub, but the staff are ever so friendly and couldnt do enough for us. The food is also amazing beautifully cooked, nicley presented and some nice vegan options. It is very well priced so really good vakue for money! Well worth a visit for the food and friendly staff...

My husband was really keen to try the restaurant because he loves bbq. We visited on a weekday eve so we knew it wouldn’t be packed, although even so there was little atmosphere and the restaurant looked like it could do with a revamp. The ladies toilets had quite a few little flies in there and there was a fly buzzing around our meal when it arrived. Our 2 year old had a hot dog and chips - it was poor quality, barely warm and came on a plain bun (nothing at all on there) and some stone cold fries that tasted a little like washing up liquid. I had a burrito and my husband a combo meal with ribs and chicken wings. They were both about passable but not particularly tasty and clearly not at all fresh. It all seemed stale and bland. As my husband put it, what he loves about this kind of food is that it is meant to be full of soul and flavour…this was really very poor. Our sons meal came with a dessert, so we ordered him chocolate ice cream with brownie pieces and chocolate sauce. The brownie was stale and old with cheap chocolate sauce. We felt pretty sorry for the little one who hadn’t eaten much of his main meal, even to the point of saying repeatedly ‘I don’t like it’ and didn’t even eat his chips (which he would normally devour as a treat food). The service however was good - the lad behind the bar was great. Very friendly and attentive. Just felt sorry for him because the food he had to deliver was so bad. He was the best thing about the place! I honestly don’t know where the good reviews have come from. I know this is a new trip advisor profile for this restaurant (which is full of 1 star reviews). Perhaps this is to try to cover up so people will come, but in all honesty, please just serve good bbq food. I genuinely am sorry to say, but if you’re considering eating here please just don’t. Sorry, Buffalo Bills!

We went last night (Saturday) and had a really fantastic meal! 2 adults, and 2 children, and they even accommodated the dog, as we sat in the bar area. Kids had ribs meals which were delicious (I had a taste too!), and the husband had a lovely steak and ribs combo. And the Tacos were to die for! Really yummy, authentic Tex Mex food, all freshly cooked. Great atmosphere, and really well kept and decorated with a Wild West theme. We can't wait to go back, when we next stay down at our caravan down the road!

The White Hart Hotel is an unusual 16th-century coaching inn. The original Tudor building has been sympathetically extended to incorporate a good standard of facilities whilst retaining its wonderful historic character. The public rooms boast period features, original oak beams, stone Tudor fireplaces, oak paneling and creaking, sloping floors. Then step into our leisure facilities complete with heated swimming pool and fully equipped gym offering treadmills, weight benches, cross trainers and much more. The hotel is within close proximity of Brighton and Falmer and Eastbourne. The train station is a short stroll from the hotel.
We had a wedding locally which is why we stayed here even with its bad reviews. As expected it was pretty awful. It's an old hotel with quirks which is absolutely fine. But door locks hard to work, twin room we stayed in (11a) was really tired and dirty. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable, cheap and thin. Under the bed was rubbish from previous guests. Room was generally badly cleaned and bathroom was horrible. If you can find alternative accommodation in Lewes I would recommend it.

We were in the “Spinney” room with views over the lovely garden and variety of birds including pheasants and the woodpeckers to name a couple! The breakfasts were delicious with a generous selection of fruits, cereals, juices and a marvellous full English etc etc. We thoroughly recommend White Lodge B&B and hope to return soon!!
