Beautiful evening for a lovely dinner. The outside seating at the upstairs restaurant is lovely. (Dress code = casual neat) The menu is in German and English (ask) and is extensive. With local food and great fish and meat dishes. The service is excellent and very professional. On the weekends make a reservation, popular with larger groups too. Little pricy.

This cosy new refurbished hotel in the city centre of Lingen gave us a very pleasant stay! It has a good breakfast with fresh fruit en bacon/scrambled eggs. Everything was very new inside, the restauration of the building was a very good job. A lot of art on the wall's, rooms have a modern LCD tv and free internet.

We've had a three nights stay, the room was fine, big, not spacey, but we had one with a balcony and that made it really nice. Also really appreciated the hotel ensured the room was perfume free, with my MCS exposure can make me very sick. Main issue was the temperature [25-28*C which we could not control with the panel. Later it turned out to be broken. First night hardly slept, we asked assistance next day, the lady said she would fix it from downstairs due to the broken panel. Second night was the right temperature, but... the third and last night was back to hotter temperatures, why? That's two out of three nights being uncomfortable. Lobby staff was friendly, but we never got to hear a sorry. For the price we paid, you expect the room to be cleaned every day. Well I'm afraid not due to lack of staff you needed to ask for it. We decided three nights will be alright and did not request cleaning. Anyway paid full price. Also meant we had to request extra toilet paper, we got one (!) Why not immediately two? We had to ask again! Breakfast: lots of choice and super friendly staff there, always prepared to fulfill a special request. Big minus, we did not use Wifi due to it not being password protected. That's is something not done nowadays.

Stayed in the Gasthaus Thien on the 24th January 2016, we had been to visit friends near Bremen and were going back to Düsseldorf, via Lingen for the flight home to England the next day. We have some friends who live in Lingen, but since it was a Sunday evening decided to stay in this guesthouse rather than at their home (they had to go to work in the morning) I have been to Lingen and past this guesthouse many times over the years, which is situated next to the canal and at night it is all lit up and looks lovely. We arrived at about 18.00h and at first had a bit of difficulty finding our way in, as the rear of the building was in darkness, (entrance to the guesthouse) therefore had to go into the bar at the front on Forstweg, however the guy came from the bar area and showed us around the back and let us in and to our room. I would describe the room as fairly ‘functional’ but enough for one night, two single beds (which is the norm in Germany) TV with the usual German channels, reasonable sized bathroom, and wardrobe space, and a balcony. (In one of the wardrobes there was a cooker, and a sink etc, but never used it). In the morning when down for breakfast at approximately 08.00h, there was only one other couple in the guesthouse, there was more than enough choice with tea, coffee, fruit juice, fruit, meats, yogurts, and bread rolls etc. There was no-one from the staff around, you just helped yourself. One lady did come in halfway through our breakfast and asked us to pay at bar (at the front) when we were ready to leave, but that was it. (Basically they just leave you to it!) Overall it was a very nice stay, the guesthouse is situated on the outskirts of Lingen in Altenlingen , but it’s very easy to get out Lingen, and the surrounding countryside is lovely (I think you can hire bikes from this Guesthouse, but didn’t use them as we only stayed one night). I would described this as a very quiet location, especially on a Sunday, as I have said previously there was only one other couple staying, and as is the norm (on a Sunday) in Germany the bar closed early, so when we arrived back at about 22.00h after going out for a meal with friends everything was closed. (If you never been to Germany before then you will find Sundays very quiet) I’ve no idea what it’s like on a Saturday , as there is a large function room down stairs that does get used for birthday, weddings etc, so it may be a bit more lively on a Saturday. (And of course may a bit noisier) There is lots of parking at the rear. If anyone in your party has mobility issues you may have a problem as there are very steep steps at the rear (entrance to the guesthouse) and as far as I could see there wasn’t a lift. I would recommend this guesthouse for a quiet stay in Lingen.
