We just had a great day at Train Fest. The train ride in the caboose was short but interesting. The horse wagon ride was kind of long but interesting. Some neat model train displays and a yummy bbq for lunch. The admission and cost of lunch was reasonable.
One thing that would make for a better event would be more tents with tables and chairs to be able to eat and rest in the shade.

This was our fourth visit. Parks Canada has taken it over from the Town. The exhibits are fewer as the staff sift through what is there and decide which to promote. Apparently the fourth floor which is being refurbished will feature focus more on the aboriginal community of the the area.
The lookout tower is worth a visit to have a 360 degree view of the area.
The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable.
Don't miss the 10 minute introductory video. As well as highlighting the Rideau Canal and its designation as a World Heritage Site, it introduces viewers to other such sites in Canada such as l'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland and Ninstints on Haida Gwaii.

Fabulous yarn shop!! A wonderful place to shop, staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and they provide a wide variety of yarns for your creative pleasure!! Spinning wheels and fibres, and luscious yarns with alpaca, silk, wool, bright acrylics and EVERYTHING in between! I always feel welcome when I stop by this shop, whether to enjoy a cup of tea while I sit and knit or to browse the books and lovely yarn selections, dreaming of my next project. When in Smiths Falls you MUST visit Knit Knackers and say hello to Paulette and Marlene!!

We persevered until we found it hidden at the back of a long driveway which doesn’t have a roadside sign for Parrot Partners. The Gallipeau Centre, outside of town, is where it is. Our guide explained each bird’s situation and the individual handling and training requirements for each bird. These preparations are necessary before they are ready to be adopted out to new homes. We fed treats to the birds, using long skewers, giving reinforcement for good behaviour. We were also able to take our pictures with a bird on our arm. Overall an informative and enjoyable experience. Hopefully this project will help people gain insight into the plight of these birds in captivity, when things don’t work out. The extraordinary amount of care and attention needed when taking them into your home as lifetime “partners” must be considered seriously.

Waste of taxpayers dollars, it is an old house with old furniture, which in itself is not a problem. But the historic significense of the house has nothing to do with the furnishings, for the amount that it costs the tax payers to support offset by the number of visitors it is a complete waste of monies unfortunately.

The railway station in this Community has been converted into a beautiful theatre that any place in the world could be proud of. From the well-aligned plush seats to the woodwork so lovingly restored by the conversion crew, this theatre is charming, and a proper venue for the talented cast of thespians who entertained a delighted audience with their latest comedy. Their website lists details of Performances and tickets. Paying for tickets was easy as they use PayPal at no extra charge. The correct amount was charged, converted to American currency, and this confirmed both the booking and the charge immediately by e-mail. Tickets were waiting for me just before the performance, and I had chosen my seats when I reserved.
The entire cast and crew were well-rehearsed, the choice of script was funny, and the accoustics were great! The stage crew had crafted hilarious gadgets to hide "the merchandise", and the audience really got a first-class show!
Too bad I live so far away for I would like a season's pass! Still, I will be looking for opportunities to see another great production as soon as I can get away.
In fact, I am so sure of a return visit that I added the location to my GPS!
