Ocqueoc Falls

The only waterfalls in Michigan's Lower Peninsula may not compare to what the U.P. has to offer (especially Tahquamenon), but they're certainly worth a visit. The site is well-maintained and the falls photo-worthy. And surprisingly, apparently you're allowed to wade into them! (Wasn't expecting that!) While there I made a point of checking out the nearby State Forest Campground, and if you're into rustic camping this looks to be a real gem! Generous, heavily forested campsites and so secluded! Would love to come back!

40 Mile Point Lighthouse

Rode our bikes from Hoeft State Park and walked through the lighthouse and exhibits. I really enjoyed the pilot house from the Calcite and seeing what shipping on the Great Lakes was like from 1912 to 1961. The lighthouse was also cool and well maintained with volunteers who explained some of the features and background. We enjoyed seeing everything

We visited on probably the prettiest day ever....but this place would be beautiful on a bad day. We only stayed a moment, but we want to come back. There is something about the paths, the beach and the peacefulness. There were lots of both sand and rocks.

We've been visiting cider mills all over the state and this one has it all! Fantastic donuts, loved the apple with caramel icing!!! Twisted root hard cider was fantastic, mix of the peachy and sunrise ciders was perfect. It's an actual orchard too, so many apple varieties to take home. Lots of activities for the kids if you wondered. This place is the real deal, great job!!!!!

Lakeside Park

Been there a few times. Usually the Maritime Festival is going on and it is packed with people, vendors, and rides. When the Festival is not there, it is a quiet place to watch the water or the boats. Nice access to the docks where you can watch the boats come into and out of the harbor. There is a small snack bar, but they are usually closed when we are around. We have seen a couple of concerts at the pavilion that were OK.

Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum

What a treat to find this museum! It's not huge but it has a lot to offer. There are many photographs as well as a wonderful collection of maritime artifacts, well-arranged so it's easy to explore. We happened to stop on a slow day for the museum, and the staff was just locking the door early when we arrived. They kindly opened up again for us and turned on the lights. Janice was nice, friendly and very informative. This was a great stop on our tour of the Lake Huron side of Michigan.

Huron Sunrise Trail

We rode the Huron Sunrise Trail 3 times while camping at Hoeft State Park. The trail has great views of Lake Huron and terminates in Rogers City on the south and 40 Mile Point Lighthouse to the north. We felt safe on the trail as far as not being in fear of vehicular traffic and the trail itself is well maintained. Great bike path
