Puerto Colombia is a coastal town and municipality in Atlántico Department, Colombia founded in the mid 1800s. Famous for its "Pier of Puerto Colombia", that at one time was the largest Pier in the world. Duties were later transferred to the larger and modern Port of Barranquilla in Bocas de Cenizas, the mouth of the Magdalena River in the Caribbean sea.

The Barranquilla Beaches are not very nice. The Puerto Colombia Beaches are better, for sure. There are other Beaches much better yet, but if you don't have time to visit Santa Marta or Santa Veronica or Cartagena, then visit Puerto Colombia. There is a nice plaza in the center of town, restaurants and shops.

This is a relatively new area that is still under development, but the Malecon itself is completed. It is a nice, colorful walk alongside the Magdalena River. There are plans to develop the area around it with hotels and shopping, but with the economy as bad as it has been, the project is well behind schedule.

We arrived by plain and boat from Bogota. My friend read a lot about the local guides and local animals. We camped, we saw a cascabel, and climb the wonderful massive rocks.

If you are looking for authentic local culture, Puerto Colombia is the right place. No filters...
Locals walking on the streets wearing tshirts shorts and flip flops all the year long. The best food its actually on the beach. Fryed fish coconut rice, fryed green plantains and salad. Ask for agua de panela. A cane sugar beverage with fresh lemon juice. Bring your camera, a Hat, sunglases, summer clothes hydrate beverage... some nights there are special program open to public. But believe me just be there is enough entertainment. Do not expect comfort. Punctuality. Just have fun. I recomend a short visit if you are in the way to Cartagena

Reserva Natural Y Ecoturistica El Horeb

Reviewed By Violitaaa

I happened to spend my birthday in Caquetá this year and took the day off, seeking to get to know the area and roam through the jungle for a bit. I asked around and found out there's a few natural reserves around Florencia that are safe-havens of environmental protection in the area. I got in touch with Guillermo, who is socio of El Horeb and offers tours through the reservat. Guillermo really went out of his way to make my day unforgettable! He picked me up at my hotel in Florencia in the early morning and got me back safe at night. He's very dedicated to the entire project of environmental protection and to make people aware of the importance and the beauty of the Amazon, he knows the most magical and hidden places within the reservation and led me to awe-inspiring natural sites. I spent the day floating in rivers, exploring caves and even chilling in a hammock for a decent siesta. Food (lunch) and great company were included. Get in touch with Guillermo if you're in the area:
