The Chattooga River is without a doubt the Southeast's premier whitewater rafting adventure. In fact, Southern Living called rafting the Chattooga "The #1 Thing Every Southerner Ought to Do." The Chattooga was federally protected in 1974 by the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act, forever preserving its rugged river gorge from development. Thus, the Chattooga delivers breathtaking scenery and treasured whitewater in an unmatched wilderness setting. NOC's Chattooga Outpost has been leading trips on the Chattooga since our company's inception in 1972. In fact, our company founder Payson Kennedy was a stunt double in Deliverance. NOC's Chattooga guides are among the nation's most elite whitewater guides. They receive industry-leading training and are also equipped with the most modern river equipment.

Today I spent the entire day with my wife (of 21 years this month) hiking 5 waterfalls, a 1850's incomplete railroad tunnel, and a historic park. We logged approximately 8 miles and our award for favorite destination of the day goes to Yellow Branch Falls. Here's what we loved: + It is a popular waterfall for both people and pets! Plenty of cute doggies to play with along the trail. + Because it's popular, it didn't feel remote and dangerous, making my non-hiker wife feel more comfortable. + Parking was plentiful + Restroom facility + Wide & spacious trail for the most part and easy to follow + Woods were not dense with foliage and lines of sight were sometimes well over 100 yards. + Creek crossings were easy as the trail made use of bridges, stepping stones and even downed trees. ++ And the biggest reason of all, A STUNNING WATERFALL as a reward for your 1.5 mile efforts. YELLOW BRANCH FALLS is only 50 feet tall, but feels so much larger because its multi-tiered face is about 80 feet wide! It is a magnificent specimen of a waterfall due to the fact that you can not only see ALL of it head on, but it also has an easy to photograph side profile. The reward of a gorgeous waterfall coupled with a pleasant trail that feel like Red Riding Hood's walk to grandma's house makes this our top hike of the day! Our other hikes today included nearby: - Lick Log Falls - Pigpen Falls - Issaqueena Falls - Station Cove Falls (2nd favorite of the day) - Oconee Station Historic Site - Stumphouse Tunnel Be sure to stop by King Taco in Walhalla as a reward for all the calories you will burn on these hikes. Great tacos and burritos!

We saw 7 falls this trip and this was one of our favorites. We parked at Burrells Ford campground and it was a 20-30min hike from there to the falls (start at the trailhead marker in the parking lot). We saw one cottonmouth snake and a baby king snake. Also there was a lot of poison ivy and oak on this trail. We are very happy we did this beautiful, short, and easy trail.

During our visit, it was very quiet, and not busy at all. We stayed on campsite 30. Right next to the lake, close to the bathroom. There is a playground, putt putt, and geocaching. We didn't find the Geo cache karma that we had a nice walk around the Lake because of it. The shelter houses are really nice with great views. We did not stay in the cabins, but we saw them from the outside. They seem very well kept. Day swimming hole is very simple. Some of the campground is in older condition, but it's perfectly usable. Everything doesn't need to be shiny and new to be good! On that note, the campgrounds bathroom was brand new. The store is nice, and well sticks. Employees are nice and know the area well. Check in is simple. You can't buy ice or firewood after hours. The location is rural, but Walmart is 30 minutes away. There are waterfalls to hike to all around. It was a GREAT trip, and we can't wait to go back!

Very easy hike. Even in January while snowing a little it was a very popular trail to explore, there were always people along the trail with us. The park ranger on site it very kind and informative and will talk your ear off! We loved talking to him for a bit. We began at the station entrance and had to cross a street to get to entrance of the waterfall trail. It’s not a busy street though so I worries there.

This is a wonderful set of falls just off the Foothills Trail inside Sumter National Forest. An easy walk from a parking area. There is a lot of growth so you may have to look for a clear view - at least while the leaves are still on the trees.
