We recently added handmade organic dark chocolate options made in Woodstock, IL.
When my wife and I were growing up in Blue Island, Illinois, one of Chicago's south suburbs, we were familiar with a candy store with a dozen or so bins of candy that also dispensed fresh taffy apples and chocolate covered strawberries and pretzels. Whatever happened to those kind of candy stores? Well, surprisingly, we found one in Lexington, Virginia, in an ice cream parlor. And we found another one in Long Grove, Illinois. Located at 424 Robert Parker Coffin Road, Ma & Pa's Candy has been a tradition in this tourist-happy community since 1966. "Take a sweet trip back in time" is its slogan. True enough. Truth be told, I spent most of my time at the chocolate case. I sampled some almond toffee and almond butter crunch, then filled a $22, one-pound box with toffee, caramel s'mores, almond bark, coconut haystacks covered with milk chocolate, chocolate sandwich cookies, oreo bark, pecan patties and sea salt caramel. Chocolate, anyone?

Great beer, easy going place that welcomes pets, has some cider for my wife and has menus to neighboring restaurants to order from. If you want a place where you get great beer and let your hair down like you are in your basement bar this is the place. The restaurant hassle doesn’t exist and for those who like board games there are number to choose from. Relaxxxxxxxing!

We spontaneously stop by the Valentino vineyards and did the wine tasting of 5 amazing wines, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the wine, the excellent service, the beautiful location of the winery and the entire experience. Vivian and her husband offer unique wines, made with love, care and tradition that you can taste in every drop of the wine they produce. We are definitely coming back to continue tasting and buying more wine, I highly recommend you this winery!

For years, my wife and I have made it a point to visit Long Grove Village at least once a year, to stroll along the cobblestone walks that wind through the historic downtown area, browse in shops that specialize in antiques, clothing, unique gifts, exceptional artwork and home decor and indulge in a variety of restaurants, cafes, bars, bakeries, ice cream parlors, pizzerias and confectionaries. Located at 114 Old McHenry Road in Chicago's far northern suburb, Long Grove always offers something new and delightful. One of our favorite stops is Long Grove Confectionery Company, a nut and candy factory store that opened in 1975 and specializes in handcrafted gourmet chocolates. The main store is in Long Grove but there is an outlet store in nearby Buffalo Grove. For chocolate lovers--and who isn't?--this is Valhalla. We have our favorites, of course. Usually, we sample the company's signature Giant Myrtles, fresh roasted salted nuts smothered with cooked caramel in a buttery copper kettle and topped off with rich chocolate, then pre-order the company's holiday cult candy, Doodles, three pounds of crunchy nuts and puffed corn cooked in butter in a copper kettle. Orders are taken on October 1 and shipped on December 1. We also take home bags of gourmet English toffee, peanut brittle, dark chocolate sea salt caramels, chocolate dipped strawberries, giant peanut butter cups, sweet red cashews, sweet red mixed nuts, chocolate bark bars, chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate covered raisins. They have been satisfying customers for 45 years and the tradition of excellence continues.
Midtown Home + Market is proud to house over 15 local artisans and their goods. We offer a dynamic blend of handcrafted decor, amazing furniture, beautiful art, and unique gifts. All nestled in the quaint downtown area of Historic Long Grove.
