The Murals of Lake Placid mural art gallery is located within the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce.
We took the time today after exploring Lake June and its connecting lake to drive around the “downtown” area and check out the murals. There are signs announcing Lake Placid as Mural City. We found a great many murals and learned most were painted by one man. They are nice - really. Not exciting but they are murals and perhaps had we had a guide it would have been helpful. But I wouldn’t recommend driving there just to see them if your drive is very long. Nope.
There was a beautiful bandstand in the large and well-kept town center. Nicely treed on a hot day. There’s a clown school and museum there if you are interested too but it wasn’t open today.
I think the big draw to Lake Placid is and should be the beautiful lakes and the very nice people. Murals? Yeah okay they are nice too.

Always find wineries an interesting visit, and this small country store type location was worth a short side trip from Lake Placid. They make several varieties of wine, and you can taste test to find which you like best. The woman at the store was friendly and helpful. They have a wide assortment of jams and jellies as well. The "tour" was not much, but you could see where the wine is made (they were not active when I was there), stroll through the vineyards and of course visit the chickens and ducks. The wine was tasty and prices are very reasonable.

This tour is so much more than alligators- although we saw plenty of gators! Captain Lee is personable, knowledgeable and entertaining. The combination of airboat ride, alligator "hunting", bird watching, nature lessons and historical insights made for a great experience. Everyone in our party agreed it was the highlight of our trip.

As you walk up to the museum you are welcomed by your own personal, knowledgeable tour guide. As you walk through the museum your quickly discover that the items on display depict more than the history of Lake Placid; it is also a historical tour of America in general. There are also some items on display that are not historical; but very interesting and that is the miniature display. You soon discover that Lake placid has a number of folks who are experts in creating miniature displays. There is also a person on staff who builds some of these displays and is a treasure chest of information on the making of miniatures. Visiting this museum is an enjoyable way to spend an hour or 2 taking a break from viewing the many wonderful murals the town has.

As visitors before me have said, this park is off the beaten path. We enjoyed the trails through the scrub, vie ing eagles, osprey and Turkey vulchers. The compost restroom and picnic table are adequate. It's a nice place to hike. Just go prepared with drinking water, sunscreen, and cell phone.

We have a friend who attended Toby's clown school. She has put here training too good use cheering up patients in hospitals and residents in retirement homes.

Despite the present rash of Cloraphobia, clowns are usually on the sunny side of life.
Laugh and the world laughs with you.

Chris took our family of 6 (two airboats) out on Lake Istokpoga. We went through miles of shallow lake/grass (I dont know what to call it - sorry) searching for Gators. They say there are 1000's of Gators in Lake Istokopoga and I dont want to jump in to challenge that claim. They even took us to an old smuggling plane that had crashed years ago in the Lake. We had family that ranged from 6 yrs old to over 60 and everyone really enjoyed it and I would highly recommend trying it if you are in the Lake Placid / Sebring area of Central Florida.

Leave your fine clothes & shoes @ home/hotel cause you will get
a little dirty here! Did the $45 for one and 1/2 hour ride. Saw about 12 gators,
many exotic birds,wild turkeys,deer and um..."hillbillies"
If you are the outdoors type you will have a good time!
If you are not,you might not like it.
