Albourne Estate is a family-owned boutique Sussex vineyard and winery overlooking the beautiful South Downs, just eight miles from Brighton. The Estate crafts small quantities of exciting and distinctive single estate sparkling, still and fortified English wines, using only our own carefully grown grapes. We are open most Saturdays from May to September for pre-booked Tours and Wine tastings.
I loved this experience: what a magical morning we had with some October blue skies.... we’re from the area but the South Downs and views across the vineyard were beautiful. Our tour host taught us a lot about the complexities of running such a british boutique vineyard and the tasting session was very enjoyable too :) Thanks Albourne for a great autumn morning!

Made and Making run sewing, crochet, knitting, patchwork , felting and china workshops as well as organising hen parties, birthday parties, and bespoke workshops for adults and children. We have a beautiful and inspiring Garden Studio based in South Downs Nurseries in Hassocks, just north of Brighton. Visit the website and fInd us on facebook to see what takes place.
I have now attended three zoom classes, all great. The first was quilling and the second was florentine tapestry, neither of which I had done before and the third was a getting to know your sewing machine refresher. I loved learning new skills and Sarah explains things brilliantly and with great patience. These Wednesday evening classes have been a real highlight of the week. It all runs really efficiently and the kits arrived in good time and were very reasonable as were the courses. The sewing machine refresher was informative and solved some burning questions I had! Thank you Sarah for brightening up lockdown! I would highly recommend these courses and Made and Making.

Jill Windmill [ CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS ] is a 19th century corn windmill located at Clayton, West Sussex in the United Kingdom. She is a traditional working corn windmill in the South Downs National Park. She has fully restored and is now maintained by volunteers from the Jack And Jill Windmills Society, a Registered Charity. Admission and Car Parking are free. Refreshments and Souvenirs are normally available on Open Days, which are most Sundays May To September between 2 pm and 5
This is a fascinating place to visit even if the windmill itself is closed (check opening times), as it is very impressive from the outside as well as the interior workings which can be viewed when the mill is open to the public. Beautifully restored and preserved - a great example of its kind.

Within the 3000 sq feet tropical flight area we have created an environment which is carefully controlled and monitored to ensure perfect conditions for our live butterflies. The high temperature and humidity is created not only for the hundreds of tropical butterflies, but to also sustain the tropical plants and flowers needed to enable the butterflies to feed, breed and lay their eggs. The habitat of the butterflies has been reconstructed at our butterfly farm in such a way as to allow visitors an insight into the fascinating way of life of these amazing insects.
What a beautiful place! Myself, my husband and our two daughters (aged 9 and 7) spent a wonderful hour here. When we first walked in, I thought it was a bit small and wondered how we would fill the time, but actually the time flew and we were all reluctant to leave once the hour was up. We saw so many stunning butterflies and moths - they were all amazing. The member of staff was really helpful and knowledgeable so we all learnt loads. An added bonus was the balmy 30 degree heat: a welcome burst of summer on a grey, winter day. We will definitely be returning.
