Maine's premier lake region offers great outdoor recreation and sports, including fishing, hunting, mountain biking, canoeing, hiking, and "flightseeing" by seaplane.
We toured the lake on the SS Katahdin and really enjoyed a few hours on the water. It's a pretty lake with a lot of history. We went as far as Sugar Island before turning back.

Located in the Moosehead Lake region, this park offers a small beach, campsites and boat launch facilities.
We went here one afternoon just to walk around and visit the small playground. We were by the water and it was pretty cold. My grandkids played in the playground for a bit. I think this would be nice to bring your grill (they do have some there too) and just kick back by the water, enjoy the scenery and eat lunch or dinner.
It cost a few bucks to get in and that fee helps support the park.

Prong Pond is absolutely outstanding! We rented canoes from Northwoods Outfitters and when we arrived had the whole lake to ourselves. We spent two hours paddling all around the take circling the islands, and saw loons. It was really priceless.

Clean, organized, well light and helpful. We were a group of 4 senior citizens. We enjoyed our stop at the Historical Society. What else would you need?

Moosehead Lake Visitor Center and Home of the Moosehead Lake Chamber of Commerce, Forest Society of Maine and Natural Resource Education Center. Several Miles of trails for hiking, snow shoeing and cross country skiing. CLEAN Public Restrooms and Visitor Information.
We stopped in and gathered all the information we needed for our brief 3 day stay in the region. The staff is very friendly and there is plenty to see while inside. This is a must for anyone who has never been to the area.

The driving directions from Chamber don't make much sense which leads me to believe that this trail may have been moved/updated as it's not easy. It has steep inclines. It may have beautiful views from the top but we turned around 1/2 way through as we were not prepared for exertion and thought elders would enjoy an "easy" stroll.

My wife and I hiked the trails here in late September, and found them to be well maintained and easy to do, by Maine trail standards. This has a gradual but steep down hill to start so after you have looped the Big and Little Moose ponds, you will be going back up, however this is one of the easier hikes in the area.
