I had a wonderful ride along the coast with Harriet earlier today! Hydra is an extremely pretty island, and it was well worth getting up early(ish) to avoid the midday heat. The horses are very calm - suitable for riders of any level - and Harriet is keeping group's small in order to mitigate COVID-19 related risks. For anyone holidaying in Greece in the complex summer of 2020, I highly recommend some time out on Hydra (only 1.5 hours from Athens) and with Harriet and her lovely horses.

Komiseos Theotokou Monastery

A beautiful church featuring a Venetian bell tower and a domed interior.

Reviewed By stinkwink - Sydney, Australia

From monastery to the cathedral, from the cathedral to a museum. A well-known path, just think about Aya Sophia, that was a Greek Orthodox cathedral first, later a mosque, and now it is also a museum. As the number of church-goer believers was decreasing, the churches started to get other functions. After arrival walking in the harbor, we noticed a Clocktower and a belltower behind it. Without knowing what we will see, we headed towards them. When we entered through the Clocktower, we realized that we're in Komiseos Theotokou Monastery. Inside in the courtyard of the Monastery-Cathedral-Museum, there are graves, and statues and a balcony going inside around the building, providing access to the rooms on the first floor. It is an excellent place to see all the attractions below in the atrium. Unfortunately, the church or whatever was closed, and since we had only three hours in Hydra as participants of a cruise, we weren't able to wait to catch the right time. Luckily my mobile is smart enough to take an enjoyable photo of a dark room, through the window. Komiseos Theotokou Monastery wasn't the first place where I had to practice it. Since I took the picture from outside, I even didn't break the rule, that prohibits photography inside the church. It was a pity that we had just such a short time since I would love to spend at least 1-1,5 hours there.

Wandered into this beautiful resort with friends on a walk from Hydra Port and were greeted by the owner, Arthur, who shared with us a little history of the buildings (a former shipbuilding yard) and how he plans to continue their conversion to include accommodation as well as the current beach facility and restaurant. We came back the following evening for a meal and to watch the beautiful sunset as we ate. What a delight. A boat was waiting for us at Hydra Port to take us round to the resort and we were met by George and his team who took the best care of us throughout the evening. The meal, the wine, the service and the setting were all amazing. A little more expensive perhaps than the other restaurants in town, but most definitely worth it. Don’t leave without trying the desserts. Really first class from start to finish. Keep up the good work guys and wish you all the best.
