IT is such a calm and serene place to visit. WE were the first to visit. We reached there on our return from gangtok in the morning by 9AM. It was such a sight to behold and have the monastery all for yourself Monks do stay there and there is such good view for mountains and breeze all around. A stretch of road to the monastery is not so good though that doesn't matter when you get such amazing views.

The Yumthang valley is breathtakingly beautiful and a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and the huge statue of the Destroyer(Shiva is the Destroyer, Brahma the Creator and Vishnu the Preserver in Hindu mythology) is sight to be seen!!

On a trip to Aritar, apart from Lampokhri and Mankhim view point, it is the most happening place, here one can have experience the Buddhist culture, thanka, wall paintings, and many little monks who used to have their lessons on Buddhism here. Spend some time, explore the monastery, have some chats with little friends, and dont forget to visit the Buddha statue over Lampokhri, just little walk from Minastery entrance

Do Drul Chorten has One main Stupa and 6 or 7 small stupas around it. It is located on TOP a hill and is located close to the Institute of Tibetology - another important landmark near Gangtok. If you visit the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, chances are you will visit this stupa a few minutes walk uphill. Said to comprise magical powers to ward off evil, this is another heritage sight of buddhist faith. In case, you are not interested in either the aspects of faith or history associated, consider skipping. The sight of diligent monks filling up butter lamps and spinning prayer wheels offers a serendipity of its own. Please ensure you maintain due diligence of being quite and behaving dignified to respect the sanctity of this place.

By sheer chance, we visited on the day of the annual Detor Cham, a colourful masked and costumed dance festival. Absolutely amazing and we feel very privileged to have witnessed this ancient ceremony. This is held on the 18th and 19th day of the 12th month of the Tibetan calendar, which is in January/February.
