I've once been here when I was little . It was shabby then but now I'm glad that it now wears a better outlook. And the pool has been redesigned. Apparently not a good swimmer so I didn't bother to enter the water. lol. ? . There is that spot I love where the warmer spring meet the cooler one. It was a good experience coming here again.

Whatever you do, avoid this place. You would be more comfortable sleeping in your car. Smells like sh*t..... Lots and lots of mosquitoes and dishonest dront desk staff... avoid the place if you can for your own good!

I am a very frequent traveller but this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed. The checking in was a nightmare. The hotel rooms were booked, paid for and rooms allocated one week before our arrival only to be told our rooms keys could not be found. Apparently our rooms had been sold. We were given some dirty rooms after one hour. The rooms were dirty and smelly. We had no choice of another place to stay. We complained but the manager refused to attend to us. We had to wait for two hours to get food in the restaurant. The towel could have been sourced from the cess pool.the white could pass for grey. There were too many staff shabbily dressed who had no clue about working in a hotel. In short this is an hotel from hell will not recommend it to anyone.

Whispering Palms is a large gated resort, where I spent my first week and a half in Nigeria. There is a lot of nice paths and places to watch the lagoon by the water. Not that many comfortable chairs or benches though. There is also a restaurant, tennis and volleyball courts, parks, even parrots, a zoo and some art. In the “amenities” they say they have beach, but it’s not something you can swim in. It’s a lagoon with brown water and snakes in it. There is NO WI-FI. They may assure you they got wi-fi. I repeat, THERE IS NO WI-FI. None whatsoever. The AC works when the power is on. It’s not very efficient but works. Come with earplugs because that baby is one noisy machine, screaming into your ear beside the bed. Electricity is not on during the day. There are no mosquito nets in the rooms, so bring your own repellent and insecticide. After the first two nights before I had these, I woke up with a lot of mosquito bites. I’m glad I was taking anti malaria medicine! There was a safe in the room but it didn’t work. The resort is far from everything, so it is almost impossible to get food from anywhere else. (This also is not allowed, but you can sneak in an apple. I did.) You are forced to buy their over priced meals. There are no snacks available, no juice or diet sodas. Only water and heavy, oily dinners. After a week of this palm oil diet you start having wet dreams about a Coke Zero. Don’t get me wrong, i love jollof rice. But a slice of bread and something a little lighter than oily rice and grilled chicken would be nice, at least in the mornings. The only salad they have is mayo based coleslaw, which is a risk I’m not willing to take. Have had my share of food poisonings in the tropics. I stayed in Whispering Palms for 9 days. There was no soap in the bathroom, I had to buy it myself. I had to ask for my trash to be taken away and a broom to sweep the floor because of the exessive sand. I had to ask for more toilet paper, which was given me grudgingly like it was gold. They didn’t clean my room until after seven days I requested it (I know, why did I wait that long! I’m shy and didn’t want to come of as a difficult customer.) After seven days I was living in filth, including the oily spot on my bed, which was there after a restaurant worker placed his tray on it. This leads me to the breakfast. They bring it to your room, which is pretty neat. But, they wake you up about 8am with a loud phone call (it has to be LOUD because of the angry AC) asking what do you want for breakfast. And keep it up honey, they give you the menu fast, in pidgin. The food is brought about 30mins after the call, so you got half an hour to get up and get dressed. Sometimes the breakfast takes an hour and a half to come, so you get up too early, you’re tired but get dressed, you’re stuck in your room, feeling like a bullied idiot. Are you on a holiday, are you in the military? You don’t know! The breakfast plate and other dishes are left there on your table assembling all the ants in the hoods until the next morning. Nobody picks it before. The best thing about Whispering Palms is the pool. It is clean and lovely, and deep enough to dive in. Awesomeness. The fun is ruined, though, by two to three men who hang around the pool area all day and stare, in this case a lonely and extremely uncomfortable female who just wanted to relax and swim. I did not feel relaxed. I ended up taking only a quick swim once a day, instead of reading my book and resting by the pool all day all week, how I planned. It is too uncomfortable to chill by the pool for long, when every move you make is being watched. What will she do next?? Oh now she comes out the pool! Now she puts on her slippers, now she walks! Visitors are not allowed to swim in the pool, only the paying guests. Which sucks because I traveled alone, and my local Nigerian friends who i came to meet, were not staying in the hotel. The customer service in general is poor. There is not that much smiling in Whispering Palms. The whole time i was there, i felt like a freak show. I was stared and observed; what will she do next?? Only two of the staff smile and know what is customer service (I’ve done customer service for about two decades, so I know what I’m talking about.) Thank you Abigail for smiling at me! You were a delight! Other than you, and a younger gentleman from the restaurant who was polite and friendly (sorry don’t know your name), I did not feel welcomed. I don’t mind shabby. I don’t mind hard pillows, a fridge so dirty (which is not on during the days) that i rather drink my water warm than put anything in there, a tv that plays only a cartoon channel with a lot of white noise (i didn’t travel to Nigeria for tv), or a floor drain that doesn’t work (if i can still take a shower once a day, im good). Even that aggressive AC was kind of an experience. But i do mind that i was robbed of the joy of swimming. And i mind that i didn’t get the service i paid for. That is WI-FI (which was promised to me, which was the reason i chose this hotel, and which is the reason for my long and detailed review), and tolerable room maintenance (or at least equipment for cleaning). I wish the management had the sense to focus on the quality of the rooms and services such WIFI and electricity rather than the poor monkeys and crocodiles in cages waaay too small for their size. I rather have a clean room and healthy snacks than see suffering baboons in horrible living conditions. So yeah, if you only need a very loud and somewhat working AC for nights, a pool you can dive into (with an audience), you have stomach for rude stares and unwelcoming vibe wherever you walk in the area, you’re not that into clean rooms or sheets, and want to pay 41 euros per night for this, Whispering Palms is your place.
