Offers self-guided tours through its tropical gardens.
Lots of labeled trees, bushes, etc. Great walking guided tour--get a map from room 204 of the office first (you are required to register). Free. A plant lover's paradise. We saw lots of plants that are "house plants" in Minnesota at there full size.

About two miles long, the area's main attractions include Flag Square, Amphitheater, Skateboard Park, and Beach Volleyball and Football areas, among others.
Desecheo contains a mixture of indigenous, native and exotic species. In the last group are rats, goats, and rhesus monkeys. The latter was presented as part of an unfortunate adaptation experiment ... they adapted so well that they killed all the seabirds that nested there.
There is, in the Paseo del Litoral of Mayaguez, a playground created for the enjoyment of children that has its splendid bay as a backdrop. It is known as the New Millennium Park because it was in the year 2000 that it was inaugurated. Its striking colors and turrets anticipate the fun in swings and splashes. There are spaces to share as a family on any given day and recreational areas to celebrate birthdays or parties. Trees and shrubs give a respite to the heat and when the rain comes there are roofs that give shelter. Right at the entrance to the park there is a monument dedicated to Rosa M. Carrero. Go with your children and watch them run while they breathe the fresh air of the Mayaguez coast in a beautiful and safe place.
