Visitors from all over europe & even Bulgarians were all amazed at the raw beauty of the rocky coastline and pristine beaches. The villages are like a step back in time, Brodilovo & Bulgari are thriving rural idylls with their own soft micro climate. Long dry summers and brief winters, with shoulder seasons often around 15 degrees, at night! Certainly the last refuge for flora and fauna in Europe.

Very beautiful nature, a lot of things to do like Rila Seven lakes, Rila Monastery, Stobski Pyramides, Borovets Ski Courort and a lot of others. Food in this region is very delicious, people are very nice guestly. But you can see such nature and pure air very rare.

The “Vrachanski Balkan” Nature Park is the second largest of the country’s parks, which covers the Vratchanska Mountain and the massif of the Lakatnishki cliff rocks. It has a territory of 28 844 ha most of which is covered with karst limestones, 1 300 meters thick. Unique in their beauty caves and chasms can be seen in the park. Their total number is above 500 and special interest attract Ledenika, Temnata dupka (Dark hole), Zmejova dupka (Dragon hole), Haidushka propast (haidushka chasm), Gardujuva dupka, Kalnata propast (Muddy chasm), Nevestina propast (Bride’s chasm) and Sokolova dupka (Eagle hole). On the territory of the park have been registered about 950 species of high plants, of which more than 80 are rare species. From scientific and preservation point of view the most interesting species are the groups living in the caves (vertebrates and bats) and the day birds of prey. There are 214 registered species of vertebrates in the park.
This is rough and beautiful nature and geology. I did not have a lot of time to go hiking here and the weather kept me a bit from it, but this natural area is just beautiful. I was on the Vratsa/Zgorigrad-side to hike, which was already beautiful, but also the south(west)ern rim, which I travelled along by train, was stunning - between Levishte and Gara Lakatnik, along the Iskar river. This whole area deserves to be visited, and I suppose only a relatively low number of people/tourists have done so thusfar (which is good). Explore it, you won't be disappointed!

We spent more than half a day wandering across this beautiful park. There are many hiking trails, all well marked, some of them starting from the "Kyoshkovete" park. We also started there and followed a couple of trails, making a full huge circulation, and coming back to the "Kyoshkovete". The first trail passed a couple of places with wooden, rougly nailed tables and benches, made by tourist enthusiasts, where everyone can have some rest or a snack, if has brought some with him. You can't get lost because, as I have mentioned above, the trails are very well marked and all you need is just follow the signs. Along the trails, there are some signboards (unfortunately, along with the info boards about the flora and fauna in the area, scattered along the route, they are in Bulgarian only), pointing to the direction of distinctive entities, either natural or man-made, such as the "Rusalka" cave, "Biserna" cave, the uncompleted residence of the quondam Communist leader of Bulgaria - Todor Zhivkov, the Devil's pass, the Shumen Fortress, etc. Another trail led us from the Rusalka cave to a junction of trails, one of which heading to the Shumen Fortress and the other one going to the Biserna cave (a.k.a. Zandana - a Turkish word meaning "dungeon") and back to town. Great views of the town of Shumen open from the top of the plateau. Hiking the plateau is the perfect outdoor activity. The trails do not require a high state of physical fitness but some of them, in certain sections, are quite steep, and while descending is fine (avoid the dry tree leafs on the ground as those are really slippery), ascending would be a challenge for some people.
