9 National Parks in Blue Mountains That You Shouldn't Miss

August 2, 2021 Deane Carmody

The Blue Mountains are named for the delicate azure haze that lingers along the region, which is actually a fine cloud of oil emitted by eucalyptus trees. The mystical mountains are a labyrinth of plateaus, gorges and gum trees. Check out the Katoomba Scenic Railway (the steepest railway in the world), the Jenolan Caves and the Giant Staircase nature walk.

Kanangra-Boyd National Park

There are 3 walks: Waterfall (30 mins max) Lookout (10 mins max from car park) Plateau Walk (30 mins max each way but you will want to spend some time admiring the incredible view). You can look at a cave enroute - it says 10 min return but it is only about 30 seconds along the path. It took us 30 mins to drive there from the entrance to the park in our 4wd. It can be done in a normal car but a little slower. There was a campground enroute and lots of other driving and walking tracks if you have time to explore more before getting to the Kanangra Walls. It then took us 20 minutes to get to the Jenolan Caves from here.

Blue Mountains is a place you MUST visit while in Australia! It's full of everything: excitement, adventure, beauty! Better explore on your own - just drive there (if you have a rental car), buy a ticket, take a tram across the mountains, enjoy the amazing view of the Mountains, the cliffs and the Three Sisters. Then go down, walk in the park, and at the end ride in a crazy (literally!) railroad tram up. Not only you will enjoy the views, but you will be able to explore the park at your own time and pace.

Really great lookout. Very nice spot. If a nice day you can sit down and have a picnic or BBQ. When we were there it was really cold and extremely windy so didn't stay long

Bloody awesome spot !!! Some of the most picturesque countryside and some fantastic tracks from mild to needing a change of underwear wild !!! Top spot to camp and if you enjoy a water crossing, this place has plenty including one great one that continues upstream some 60 metres or so, this one is so long you forget your driving a car and start thinking you're in a boat LOL. Top spot and one we've driven many times including taking friends out there who found it equally as stunning. For all those wanitng to visit the area, just remember - whatever you take in, you take back out !! NO leaving your rubbish behind PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE
